I hate to be optimistic -- or even neutral -- but the following Magnificent Seven would be a fine addition to almost any major league baseball team

Didi G, SS (June? July?)

A Hicks, CF (May? June?)

G Stanton, DH (ok, left maybe)

Miggy, 3B (petition The Fates that he avoids surgery, even if you must kill a goat)

Sevi, P (if he's fixed whatever was wrong last year in the 2nd half)

Dellin, relief pitcher (if he's somehow mentally AND physically reformatted)

Monty, P (not back soon, but some time in 2019)

That's 7 ballplayers. I'm not including Ben Heller or Ellsbury or CCS.

I'm also not including Toe, but . . . I still maintain . . . they need to get him back.

A bad break when The Gleyber's sure, run-scoring hit grazed Judge's back foot.

BUT:

—Another throwing error on a steal by ICS that led to another run.

—Absolutely no anticipation or pitchouts in steal situations, whatsoever.

—Johnny Lasagna with a pretty good four innings (four! count 'em, four!), but when he was badly squeezed by another idiot of a home-plate ump, Boone was nowhere to be seen.

—Tyler Too's contribution to the cause was to try a first-pitch bunt that he popped up about 50 feet. All that bitching about sent down, and this moax tries to bunt his way on—though he clearly has no idea how to bunt.

—Void with two inning-ending strikeouts, the last on an inside pitch that would've been Ball Four. Tick-tick-tick.

I would agree, Joe FOB, EXCEPT:

—The pitchers may well be seriously hurt. A lot of guys are never the same after Tommy John. The fact that only never threw all that hard in the first place may actually help him—but don't expect him back.

Same with Betances. Same with Sevvy, about whom I wonder just how much more damage he did to that rotator cuff during the half-season when the Yankees just pretended he was tipping his pitches?

—With Hicks, back problems are often chronic, and unsolvable.

—If anyone can bounce back it's Sir Didi. But this is a serious injury that may well take away one of his chief assets, which is a strong arm. And he's almost 30. (Gee, if we just could have found an even better hitter who is still over three years younger...)

—Stanton, I'm telling you, is the New A-Rod, our latest New York Head Case.

I know, I know, that's entirely unfair—to A-Rod. Alex had one great postseason to win us a ring, won two MVPs, fielded his position extremely well, and hit 351 home runs for us. Stanton will do none of those things.

Also, Matthew Boyd, a guy with a 5.07 ERA in 87 MLB starts and who has never had more than 159 strikeouts in a season, has 12 Ks in 6 innings.
