All right, I'll be the first to admit that my last post may have been a tad premature.
People, we are now obviously in some weird new alignment of the stars. The Amazon is burning, the Middle East is blowing up, Larry Rothschild's separated-at-birth twin is reducing England to a Third World country.
And the Mets lose a game by giving up 7 runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. For the first time ever. In the history of a franchise that is characterized by lunatic losses.
And...on the same day that their Triple-A franchises loses by giving up 8 runs in the bottom of the 8th.
I mean, think about this. Nobody in the first two levels in the Mets' organization was capable of getting an out when they needed it. NOBODY.
I guess it saves on regrets. It's not like Mets fans are now saying, "If only we'd had good old Nogosek, HE would've saved the day."
Nope. Nobody would. There is nobody in the organization who would have saved them at all.
You know, when the Mets lost tonight, they still had got only one out in the bottom of the ninth.
One wonders what would have happened if it had NOT been the bottom of the ninth. How many runs would they have given up?
I'm thinking...57. Floor. Because the Nationals would have eventually got tired of running the bases. But you never know.
What a weird game. Big showdown between two of the best pitchers in baseball. Nationals make Little League-level mental errors in the field and on the bases. And it all comes down to the Mets being outscored, 9-7, in a two-inning, Battle of the Arson Squads.
Because...Mets. And Sky Mets.
Of course, the Boys by the Bay are still not wholly out of it. Which, again, is what stinks about the Double Wild Card system. The Mets are actually NINTH right now in the NL...but still in it. But not for long.
Which leaves our other favorite team.
Well, the magic number for the Yanks is 12, now. (They win the tiebreaker with the TB Witness Protection Rays.)
But more important? After their comeback fell tragically short tonight, the magic number concerning the team from Boston is 7 (Yes, we win the tiebreaker with them, too.).
Plus, 5 1/2 out of the Wild Card. Still. Tick. Tick. Tick.

But about tonight.
You know who's pitching for Texas? Do you? Lance Lynn. Yes, THAT Lance Lynn, the one who sucked for us, who we traded Ty Austin and Luis Rijo for (in fairness, they've since stunk up whatever joint they found themselves in).
But that sack we got for the stretch run last summer has 14 wins this year. For Texas. How Berkman of him.
We should never, ever, ever put anyone named Lance on our team. They suck in pinstripes then go somewhere else and do great. I never want to see this again, Cashman.
❤️
LAST NIGHTS MET LOSS WAS A WORK OF ART.
A MASTERPIECE OF PAIN FOR MET FANS.
HOPEFULLY, MORE FUN TODAY!
