Okay, enough of that. I was re-reading that woman's Koufax bio last night and was struck - again - by the difference in how pitchers were treated then and now. Yes, there are vast differences in sports medicine and Koufax might have pitched for many more years had he played now, but would they have let him stay out there?
He laid 200 pitches in one game and, as many of you know, he was pitching with a destroyed elbow. He trotted out there every fifth day, sometimes more frequently, and just kept at it.
Why do I mention this? Because, before I just logged in here and saw my doggerel posted in a place of honor, I was having dark thoughts, along the lines of:

Anyway, I wish CC the best on this last mile of his victory lap. So far, he has not dropped dead on the mound.

that sucked. I can't watch anymore. The negative inertia is overwhelming.

CC gave up 2 runs in 2.2 innings. Why is he still here? Isn't it better to go out on top? How much have we paid him for each strikeout this season? What if we divided that number by innings pitched. Then we can multiply it by how many urinals are being flushed while he is pitching and come up with something meaningful.

At 06:52 this morning (my time) the Rays trounced the Dodgers in the 11th inning, winning 8 to 7, after tying them in the 9th, 6 to 6. If things keep going the way they have today, Tampa Bay may grab the AL East and we'll be struggling to get beyond the Bud Selig Memorial Wild Card.
And I never liked Sabathia. I was actually repulsed - for years - watching him wobble like a Jell-O mold. I hope that was the last we'll see of him, gasping for breath as he climbs the mound. Genug! Basta!
No, they actually can't win. But what a feisty, resilient team! They were down 2 runs in the 9th, one out, nobody on, and they rallied to tie against Jansen (who is not having his best year, but still).
I would hate to play them or Oakland in the first round. Cleveland or Minnesota would not be a picnic, either, but I think we would have a much better chance.
