Out here on the west coast, there is plenty of time left for drinking tonight.

Sleep well all you slackers.

There's a guy who's been alive since the Second World War...

Midnight poetry. Sweet.

Is it just me,!or is Cameron Maybin a dreadful color (sic) man?

Hazel Motes said...

People think this club is governed by analytics--that's absurd. Boone has been an instinctive anti-analytics guy since his ESPN commentary days, when he served up the usual seat-of-the-pants palaver. No one who takes analytics seriously would have given Judge the green light there--the numbers on base-stealing are clear: it's mostly a losing proposition, except with a few elite speedsters. Cashman's GM style and player choices reek of errant intution, not analytics--there's no school of analytics that prescribes scrap-heap, washed-up older players rather than younger athletic types. Nor is there any school of analytics that is tacitly racist.

Maybin belongs in the dustbin of history.

I watch the YES video feed with WFAN as my audio.

Doug K. said...

C'mon Miggy

DickAllen said...

Grady Little’s name just came to my mind.

DickAllen said...

Doug, is there a lag between the two broadcasts?

Doug K. said...

No not really. Or not one that bothers me. The picture tells the story and the radio broadcast is for color as far as I'm concerned.

DickAllen said...

Jesus - that was some inning by Munoz

Now we get to see Holmes do his Chapman imitation

Hazel Motes said...

Holmes looks tired. 97, yes. But no life on the ball. Max effort.

Doug K. said...

Nice play by gleyber!!

Hazel Motes said...

Once again antianaltyics Boone doing his best to run them out of an inning .

Doug K. said...

Miggy? Show the front office what idiots they are....

AboveAverage said...

I bet Andujar goes back to the farm after the game

Hazel Motes said...

Efross sucks. Bedtime.

MJ said...

Pinch-run for the TRAILING runner after the Donaldson HBP with a runner on second in extra innings. Strange days indeed.

The Brain should be forced to watch every start made by Castillo after the season, along with Pal Hal. It's totally possible that the Yankees walk away with a title, but only if everyone gets hot together. A function of pure luck. The playoffs are NOT A CRAPSHOOT except to dullards and excuse makers. Fucking Hal gets his kicks playing his team's fans.

Hazel Motes said...

This team makes the Bad News Bears look like the 1927 Yankees.

Doug K. said...

Both of you knock it the fuck off!

Doug K. said...

Kevin, thanks. I mean that.

Hazel Motes said...

Kevin is sorry. At last we agree on something.

Doug K. said...

Wow. Three times in a row! Some of the worst base running I've ever seen.

I'm a half inning behind.

Kevin said...

Doug K., so-right.

DickAllen said...

Just as an aside from this miserable display, the Orioles are a half game out of a wild card spot.

Doug K. said...

Last year Sanchez lets that pitch go to the wall and the game is over

DickAllen said...

I’m so glad I live on the west coast

Doug K. said...

Me too.

MJ said...

We were sharing a brain wave on that one, DK. SO cool to have a catcher (or two) who can stop a pitch when his glove can't catch it. That was awesome.

Doug K. said...

Barney it's really simple. No personal attacks. None. Not on you. Not by you.

Your insights are worth reading. If you stick to them I don't delete it.

Kevin said...

I'm not saying that WAR is the final arbiter of a pitcher's worth, but check out Cole's numbers on ESPN.com......

MJ said...

How will they eff this up?

Doug K. said...

MJ - same way they always do. one new wrinkle. It's Miggy instead of Gallo.

Doug K. said...

well at lest he made contact

Seb said...

Torres swinging at everything. I can’t stand him anymore.

MJ said...

You are right, Doug. Do everything they can to BREAK this guy, then call him up and count on him to bat in the thirteenth inning of a scoreless game.

The people who run this team are fucking evil. But we all know that.

Doug K. said...

Seb - He drives me nuts as well. I was hoping he would go as part of the deal for castillo/sosa/lopez.

Doug K. said...

good night all.

DickAllen said...

There’s 13 innings I’ll never get back. Or hope to see again.

Hazel Motes said...

A well-deserved loss.

Seb said...

Yeah I wish he was gone too.

Oh well let’s see if they can bounce back tomorrow .

Kevin said...

I think it's pretty obvious with the injured, anemic lineup that Boone is forced to put together that lineup protection is a real thing. Just look at Judge, no way the other team allows him to do damage. The lineup has been scary thin all year, but no Stanton, Rizzo, a slumping Donaldson, and useless Hicks...

Carl J. Weitz said...

Have I mentioned how much I hate Gleyber? He's a dumb fuck and lazy and always will be. Corkscrews on every pitch trying to hit a homer at pitches at his eyes, way outside and way inside. When all he needs is a sac fly and if he hits it where they aren't, a base hit. He's much like Cano without the talent. With players like Torres and Hicks, they will never win. NEVER.

Platoni said...

If you want an example of how one swing can lose a game, it's that swinging strike, 1-0 pitch to Torres at the top of the 13th, about 7 inches high. It didn't matter what else he or the pitcher or Andujar did after that. It was predetermined.

Hazel Motes said...

Judge's slash line for the past week: .368/.520/.632. Yes, it's obvious that he's been badly hobbled by the lack of protection from Stanton and Rizzo.

Publius said...

A Very Yankees Loss

Kevin said...

Barney, how many actual hits, HRs, and RBIs in the past week? Raw numbers, not what is in effect "prorated"?

The Hammer of God said...

@Platoni, yep, I agree, it was that swing by Torres. Good relief pitching by Seattle. One bad swing is all it takes for their relievers to wriggle out of a jam. I don't think analytics captures stuff like that. That was a terrible at-bat that changed the inning and the game result.
