Is the Boone bot going rogue?

So let me get this straight:

Aaron Boone nailed down the first Yankees win this week by using Clay Holmes for a five-out save.

Aaron Boone sparked last night's Yankees win by having New Daddy Verdugo actually BUNT???

Up in Brian Cashman's invulnerable command lair—why ARE the command lairs never actually invulnerable in any West World concoction, on TV or the big screen?—there must be serious consternation. Could it be that Boone is going rogue?

What's next? Will the HAL bot actually misfunction and re-sign Soto?

I don't know.  But I like it, like it, like it...

Are we sure Boone called for the bunt? I don't know. I thought Verdugo saw an opportunity and went for it. Maybe that's not possible these days.

Last night I was having palpitations as Gonzalez and Santana came in at the end. I was sure we were doomed. But amazingly, they got out of any threat.

Now, if Boone is going rogue, was that his choice to leave Stroman in there past his sell date? Must have been. Not a good call.

As I recall, a few days back, maybe longer, Connecticut Carl ("I come from the Land of Fiber") posted a link to another posting that appeared to report that Boone and his Wife of many, many years are heading towards divorce. In fact it was Boone's Wife that had filed the papers for the divorce.

No no no, of course, of course, of course, it is none of my (or youze) business what's going on in Boone's private, personal life - BUT - if this is indeed happening, the it most certainly is nibbling at every square centimeter of Skipper Boone's gray matter - resulting in decisions and actions taken that may seem different or unusual given the very large sample size we've been witness to over the last bazillion years.

If fact - we are already seeing them happen.

So - I'm very curious and eager to see what other surprising managerial decisions KaBoone will make over the next few weeks or so.

It may prove to be . . . . very interesting.

This inning might not end well, but it could be an additional good sign that pitchers seem to be getting the hook at just the right time lately.

It ended well. Maybe Boone should somehow be kept in continual bachelorhood throughout the remainder of his tenure as manager.

Yeah, no dicking around after Ferguson was sucking. Weaver looked good.

Rizzo looking good, too.

Pocono Steve said...

Torres will kill the rally.

Pocono Steve said...

What?!

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Rizzo would've been out if Ibanez had just stepped on the base instead of going for the tag.

Gleyber moment again. At least it saved the DP.

JM said...

Jesus. What is wrong with that boy?

Needs some Adderall.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Yeah. Kay and O'Neill informed us that "Gleyber was too close to slide."

Uh-huh. Meaning that, just maybe, if he HAD slid—instead of running head first into second—he would've been safe?

Oh, that Gleyber!

I know this is a harsh comment and I don’t want to be offensive, but I believe Torres is mildly retarded.

Pocono Steve said...

It would have been better if he had just executed his usual "shit-uational" hitting and grounded into a DP.

HoraceClarke66 said...

And...another loathsome at-bat by Volpe, against a pitcher with a 5.40 ERA.

Sigh.

After that hot start, he's now under .260, with just 1 HR, 7 RBI, and 4 SB in his last 23 games. Still, better than Gleyber!

Any lip readers out there?

Asking for a fren.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

BTR,

Gleyber is certainly on some spectrum.

Pocono Steve said...

Because you can't SPECTRUM to do anything right. Ha ha ha! I kill me!

JM said...

Hey, Steve, try the veal!

JM said...

Weaver is very impressive.

JM said...

Why take out Weaver now? And have Holmes for one more out and then the ninth?

Maybe Boone just had a good phone call with his estranged missus.

THAT'S MY GLEYBER!- coming this fall to NBC!

JM, What network attempted to air *that*?!?

HoraceClarke66 said...

LOVE the new Boone! Not at ALL like the old Boone!

...and I think was a trip to Bonnie's Bondage Lair, that put a little spring in Bonehead's step.

In other happy news, the carmines are stinking up the joint with defensive plays that would make Gleyber embarrassed.

The ump at least gave us a make-up call. But I hate guys like that. They think they are the whole show.

"Hey, Dad, remember that time we went to the Stadium, and Judge got thrown out of the game because he looked sideways at a marginal third strike call? But then the ump made up for it by calling other players out on pitches? Good times!"

BTR999 said...

Somebody better dump some water on the Yankee ‘pen, bc they are on 🔥

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Hoss,

The only ump I would ever go to a game to watch would be Enrico Palazzo.

Off topic, but does anyone know of an update on John's health?

AboveAverage said...

Roofus - Regarded John’s health - my source has shared the following:

“Mr Sterling is doing alright as he adjusts to his new life. He said he’d even be doing better if he could find a damn place to put the ridiculously large TV down because he’s getting tired of carrying it around everywhere.”

HoraceClarke66 said...

Pretty damned funny, AA!

And Enrico, I'll never forget how he saved the queen that time. I hear he was knighted for that.

Torres is the antithesis of what used to be called a "winning ballplayer". I used to believe that " Sleepy Sanchez" was somehow a bad influence, maybe drinking buddies (I agree that I wasn't being fair), they seemed to have the same zoned out playing style. Man I hope that Hal doesn't throw money to keep him. Uhhhh, if it wasn't late I'd act like I tossed out a (half)-witted sarcasm concerning Hal.... Well, we face a tippy top starter today, time to sharpen them blades😰
