Off Days and Mondays Always Get Me Down

With apologies to Karen Carpenter—

Talkin' ball but feelin' this is old
Gary seems like he's quit
Bird and Didi don't hit for spit
Boston's hangin' around
Nothin' to do but frown
Off days and Mondays always get me down.

Tanaka's hammies both pulled up on him
Sanchez is really wrong
Playin' like he don't belong
Hangin' around
Got beat by those Queens clowns
Off days and Mondays always get me down.

Funny but it feels like we're about to dive
Nice to know there're two hitters still alive
Funny but I feel us slippin' into second place
With all this futile flailing jive.

Stanton's streaks have come and gone before
No need to dwell on how meh he is
We know what this team is all about
It ain't goin' anywhere like this.
Boston hangin' around
What makes me think we're headed down?
Off days and Mondays always get me down.

That was brutal, Hoss.

Sorry. But these off days are hard, too.

Just imagining Karen's voice singing those words...beautiful. If only we could have rescued her from her fate with a few ballpark franks, she might still be here to sing them today.

Slough of deepest moistest despond ...

That was a very sad story. She did have a great voice.

Really, her story was more than tragic. I'm still bewildered by the fact that no one around her was able to save her.

But...back to baseball and the not-tragic-at-all story of our rookie stars...
