This Has GOT to Mean Something!

Found this one in a little sandwich shop up on W. 168th St.—in one of those buildings that, according to the old photos, was there when the Yankees née Highlanders were still playing across the street in Hilltop Park. It was the last Diet Coke in the cooler.

If THIS doesn't get something started, then I may be forced to concede that baseball is just a meaningless exercise, unconnected to the great forces of time, space, and dimension in the universe.

Hoss, ya gotta rethink the spin you put on these things. A double and then runs into a double play? Double secret reversal punch myself in my own nuts JuJu.

The Master just whispered to Suzyn that "I know I say you can't predict baseball, but you know you really can." What is happening to Him??

Heck of a job by Judge and Stanton in the 9th inning. Swinging at junk and unable to touch those 92 MPH heaters. Judge is the antithesis of clutch and Stanton is pure garbage.

Hoss,

Just wanted to catch up on a few of the things you wrote over the last few days. We still need pitching because as much as German and Lasagna represent the future (with Sheffield and the other guy (Abreu?) we do need a solid guy. Happ? I don't know, but it's a lot to ask 2/5 of the rotation to be rooks.

That said, I totally agree with everything you wrote on the batting side.

How many lead off doubles have they wasted in the last few games? It's like no one does any situational hitting. They should bring in Matsui as the situational hitting instructor. He was amazing at it. He could call the class "Getting the most out of the pitch that's thrown." or "You can't decide what the outcome will be before the ball leaves the pitcher's hand"

Then there was what you wrote on bunting and beating the shift -- Yes. It's insane that they don't posses these skills. I forget which game but I believe Bird was up and Didi was on third with NO THIRD BASEMAN and he was taking a 40 foot lead. If Bird bunted it was a hit AND an RBI. It's a disgrace that he didn't bunt. Even if his job, "isn't to bunt it's to drive in runs". There was a run. Just sitting there. Stubborn equals stupid.

No Sonny Grey song today. He did good. No sand in my creative oyster.

Doug K., he was pitching away—hey, a rhyme right there!

Even so, I don't consider five good innings followed by needing a quick hook to be exactly a stellar outing.

Tonight, I thought for awhile that Joe Torre must have taken the place of Ma Boone in the dugout. The Yanks' insistence on pitching to Soto, practically the only hot player in the Nationals' lineup—and their budding superstar—was ridiculous. This was vintage Torre—pitch to some guy even if he was the only player in the other team's lineup. It cost us one game, and nearly two.

Leinstery, you said it. That ninth inning from our two biggest boppers was abominable.

You know, we make a lot of fun of Hicks on this site, and he should be gone. But really, his stats aren't much worse than Stanton's, even after Giancarlo's four hits in the second game.

I have lobbied for Hicks' departure for a couple years now, but I have to say, he isn't bad lately. And he is a good fielder.

Judge is actually doing OK this year, it's just that his and Stanton's flailings are what sticks in your head, not their hits and dingers. I guess it's just that we see so many flailings, they're bound to make a bigger impression.

Sanchez looked like a rube getting doubled up at second. But it seemed that the YES announcers were also fooled when Didi's shot took off. I thought it was a gapper, for sure. But then it curved toward a racing Soto, and everything went to hell.

Well, we split. Fucking Soto. I thought Andrew Jones in 1996 was enough for any fan to bear. Now we have to deal with this guy.
