Local fox affiliate in St. Botolph's town is required to cover the ALCS on the morning news, which they hate because their team is pulling the gum out of their pimply beards for the winter.

Asswipe sports dipshit continually pronounces the name as "Glabber" Torres. Hope he chokes on it.

Another evening of anti-Yankee rhetoric from Buck and Smoltz...

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Ranger,

Mute the TV sound and turn on the Master. Takes a little to sync it, but it's worth the trouble.

Carl J. Weitz said...

Rufus....how do you actually end up getting the 2 sync'd?

Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside said...

I know how I do it... MLB at bat app is always a pitch behind Atv. Pause the TV until the pitcher is in the wind up... wait for John to say.. “Thuuuh one two” and press play on the TV. Takes a couple tries but it’ll stay synced for the rest off the game.

People - we need to put on our helmets and prepare for a bombardment. There is no letting up. No crazy talk. Back to the bunker for me.

A few things...

1) Joe Buck and John Smoltz.

I know that we complain that they are anti-Yankee. But it's only because it's true. It's more than true, last night was unbelievable.

There should be a drinking game called "Negation" where you do a shot every time one of them says something nice about the Yankees and then negates it with the next thing out of their mouths.

Gleybar hits a HR and they say he is a stud. But... The ball parks are small the ball is juiced and there have been hundreds... HUNDREDS more home runs hit this year.

Judge makes a great throw from RF to get a DP. "Mookie Betts!" BTW that was actually said. Not even a follow up, just "Mookie Betts."

When the Astros were up it's all about how great they are as hitters even as Tanaka is putting on a clinic. When the Yankees are up it's all about Grienke.

Also, the only time money is brought up is in regards to Yankee players. The Astros get big bucks too but they don't talk about that.

It really was disgraceful.

2) I'm not happy that CC is on the roster but not Tyler Wade. I hope that decision doesn't comeback to bite them on the ass. Both parts. CC getting bunted on and a stolen base base not taken in a close game. Dropping Voit is fine.

3) Last, I like that the whole team seems to be putting ego aside and just doing what they are asked. Stanton found a walnut was still removed in the 7th and seemed ok with it. Tanaka is perfect for six and that was his role. It's like the whole next man up thing is more than injury replacement it's a TEAM thing. I like it.

Spot on Doug about Buck and Smoltz...

Everyone was making a big deal about home field advantage as how it was going to affect us based on 2017.

So here was the lineup in Game 7 2017:

1) Brett Gardner, LF
2) Aaron Judge, RF
3) Didi Gregorius, SS
4) Gary Sánchez, C
5) Greg Bird, 1B
6) Starlin Castro, 2B
7) Aaron Hicks, CF
8) Todd Frazier, 3B
9) Chase Headley, DH

And here was last night's lineup:

1) DJ LeMahieu, 1B
2) Aaron Judge, RF
3) Gleyber Torres, 2B
4) Edwin Encarnacion, DH
5) Giancarlo Stanton, LF
6) Brett Gardner, CF
7) Gary Sánchez, C
8) Gio Urshela, 3B
9) Didi Gregorius, SS

Slight difference

This was from another forum...

"I know it's just one game but the Yankees mixing up their signals is a big deal.

Especially with how much we were tipping our pitches in 2017. Astros have cameras everywhere. Look when the cameras cut to their dugout during the game you see the Astros batters talking to each other and picking up signals.

They're some slime bastards."

Hey Ranger,

Last week I watched the movie CBGB on Amazon in part because I keep seeing your avatar. It was good.

I like musical bio pics anyway but I'm not really a punk guy and it helped me appreciate a whole era that had passed me by. So thanks.

Wow 8 and 9. 2017 sucked.

Carl J. Weitz said...

Want an example of shoddy and dishonest journalism by the NY Post?
Read today's piece by Dan Martin on DJ Lemahieu. He claims Alex Bregman is not surprised at DJ's success due to them being teammates at LSU and then provides some quotes.

Anyone knowing the ages of both players would instantly realize this is bogus. In fact, Bregman's first year at LSU was 2013 and DJ's last year was 2008! Which means that it is a good bet that Martin's quotes from Bregman are made up.

Martin should be fired on the spot.

And thanks, Beauregard Jackson for that tip.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Are you kidding? 2017 was great! It was the first year we were back. And everybody, it seemed, was playing out of their heads down the stretch. I remember that even the Toddfather and Steady State Headley got big hits.

Of course, it was smart to dump both of them after that, even though Frazier has played all right with the Mets.

One wonders what might have happened in 2017 if Fowler hadn't run into that idiotic gear box in Chicago, or if The Gleyber hadn't hurt himself. Could we have pulled it off that year? Hard to say.

TheWinWarblist said...

Duque! What is this? What have you posted!? Are you still crouching!? Has blood completely drained from your brain into your ankles? Is this confidence? Hopefulness? What sort of madness are you brewing!? Hubris this is! Rank hubris!!

Oh, terrible and cranky and afflicting beings of JuJu, I beseech thee to heed not the words (posts?) of the aging and enfeebled (but still our glorious bellwether) El Duque! He was just kidding! He knows the Yankees are doomed to failure, he just got confused a bit! He's getting old. Very very old! Do not take notice of our magnificent dotard!! He knows not what he speaketh (blogeth?)!! Do not be enraged oh masters of destiny and our misery, at El Duque's hubris! Because THESE YANKEES ARE TERRIBLE, BY FAR THE WORST 103 WIN TEAM EVER AND THE WORST YANKEE TEAM GOING BACK TO THE STUMP MERRILL ERA!! THEY WILL FLAIL AND FAIL AND LOSE AND NEVER FULFILL THEIR PROMISE OR FILL OUR BROKEN HOLLOW EMPTY HEARTS WITH JOY!! IT'S OVER!! LET IT GO!! MY ADVICE TO YOU IS TO START DRINKING HEAVILY!!! THE YANKEES WON'T WIN A(NOTHER) SINGLE GAME AGAINST HOUSTON!!!

C'MON DUQUE!! GET YOUR HEAD BACK IN THE GAME!!

Benedícat vos omnípotens Ruthus, et Scooter, et Mantleus, et Spíritus Jeterus.

SO ENDETH THE JUJU.

damnit

Fuck you Hal.

The only way I'm going to beat this hangover is drinking during tonight's game.

Hey, it worked last night. And we won.

Which means I once again have to turn off the TV sound (no loss there) and listen to LPs. Bullmoose Jackson, Johnny Cash and Hank Ballard worked last night. I think the Lavern Baker cut was singularly responsible for Tanaka's performance.

Watching Uncle Floyd and Dobie Gillis on channel 68 was a highlight of my college experience. Emphasis on the high.

A lot of Manhattans last night. Maybe martinis tonight. It's a plan.

Traveling Wilburys.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Traveling Wilburys were cool. They played to just have fun. Went from Vol. 1 to 3 and changed their first names in between.

I was lucky enough to see Roy in a little ancient movie hall the year before the first Wilbury album came out. The guys voice was out of the world.

HoraceClarke66 said...

I'm going to watch it in a bar. Where...blessed be the JuJu gods...I won't be able to hear a damned thing, either. So good.

Platoni said...

Oh boy, Stanton not in the lineup tonight

ranger_lp said...

@Platoni He's lifetime 1 for 8 against Verlander...

PITCHER AB H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO AVG OBP SLG OPS

Justin Verlander 8 1 0 0 1 2 1 5 .125 .222 .500 .722

JM said...

Stanton hurt a quad.

Gonad time.

Platoni said...

Maybin is 0-4

JM said...

Boone said he hurt it last night. That's why he's sitting.

ranger_lp said...

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph...Stanton is as injury prone as Ron Blomberg.

Platoni said...

Ah fer fucks sake! Y'all didn't laugh at the juju gods dadjokes. This is what we get.

I repeat, when you say "I'm drunk" and one of the gods says "Hi, drunk. I'm dad", you laugh and you laugh HARD!

Rufus T. Firefly said...

What's a dad joke?

Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside said...

RED THUNDER PLEASE!!!!

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Is that like Winston Churchill?

"I'll be sober in the morning, but you'll still be ugly."

Rufus T. Firefly said...

The menace will not be inserted if Mikey is day to day.

I doubt he would be anyway. I didn't see him as one of the players they told to stay ready (e.g., Voit and Tippicanoe)

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Reggie Jackson just asked by MLB radio on Sirius how the Yankees would need to adapt with Mikey not being in the line-up:

"Who the fuck cares! He's been injured all fucking year! What? we're live? You need to tell me next time, bye." Cut to commercial.

It was fucking awesome.

I used to hate Reggie. Now I hate him a little less.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Pretty funny, Rufus!

A Dad joke is generally a lame word play joke told by a Dad to his kids or their friends in an attempt to be funny. Usually instead of a laugh it gets a groan and an eye roll.

Doug K.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Guys talking are dweebs. They deserved it.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Doug K,

That was my attempt at a dad joke. I guess I blew it. I blame it on not having kids.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

God those assholes on sirius MLB are annoying pencil necks.

Which reminds me, I liked Dr. Demento a lot. He used to play Uncle Floyd's Shaving Cream, and also Pencil Neck Geek by "Classie" Freddie Blassie - the Hollywood Fashion Plate.

Those were the days.

The pencil necks got Reggie back on for a more 'conventional' interview.

TheWinWarblist said...

Okay, we're making less sense than usual and I can't keep up.

Who's Mikey?

Reggie is a great Yankee who's greatness is so immense you can just kinda hide his assholeness behind it ... if the lighting is right.

Fuck you Hally.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Arod drives a mercedes. He just told us.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Mikey is the glass figurine that used to be known as Mike, then Giancarlo.

Reggie was great, but I was a Munson guy, so go figure.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

...and I REALLY liked his honest opinion. He wasn't knocking Mikey, just saying the team can easily deal with it.

TheWinWarblist said...

Yes, I know that making Hal's name a portmanteau of Hal and Sally is a crass low brow gendered slur and therefore far below the standards of discourse of this noble blog.

I'm going with it anyway, may the Flying Spaghetti Monster forgive me and touch us all with his noodley appendages.

Fuck you HalHank.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

And when do we ever make sense? Well except Duque and Hoss.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

As a diversion, Freddie Blassie:

I'll think of it every time I am reminded of stat-boy by the plethora of them in sports media.

My mother in law drives a Mercedes. She drives MY old Mercedes.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

"Flying Spaghetti Monster"

That sounds like an old flashback to me.

TheWinWarblist said...

Are we doing the game on this post or the Joe D post??

TheWinWarblist said...

Yeah? I'm a Pastafarian, what of it?

HoraceClarke66 said...

Rufus, Reggie ACTUALLY said that??? I thought you were joking.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

YES (not the network), Reggie actually said that. I thought it was great.

No fucking joke. Deadspin or some such site will probably have it tomorrow. And they did have to cut to commercial because they didn't know what to say after Reggie walked away.

Like I said, I hate him a LOT less than I did an hour ago.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Another Reggie compliment:

I heard from someone (ahem) that was at Mons Venus, that may have met a dancer that (ahem) said Reggie was a big tipper. Gotta like a guy that helps the local economy.
