Nice picture selection, Stang.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Indeed. And hey, you what that first game was?

AboveAverage said...

what was the first game, HC?

HoraceClarke66 said...

Boone just said that he had LeMahieu and Stanton "only in an emergency situation."

Um, skipper?

TheWinWarblist said...

We get to play two. Fuck.

TheWinWarblist said...

Hoss, Ma Boone meant like if there was an earthquake and Hal and CashBrain had to be carried out of the wreckage.

JM said...

Deivi was called up. I had missed that.

HoraceClarke66 said...

AA, it was a BIG WIN!

HoraceClarke66 said...

Deivi Garcia? Yeah, and I hear that Art Dither is being called up, too.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Not saying that Gerrit Cole, half-ace, has to win this second game. That may be impossible with this team. But he DOES have to go out there and give us a GREAT effort.

(Instead, I'm sure, he has already been rattled by the fact that his start has been slightly delayed.)

HoraceClarke66 said...

Fucking autocorrect: Art DITMAR.

Though I kinda like, "Art Dither."

AboveAverage said...

Yes it was, Sir. YES IT WAS!

Hey - for what it's worth - here's an article that the NY POST just dropped on Judge:

https://nypost.com/2022/09/07/inside-aaron-judges-guarded-life-as-he-chases-home-run-record/

AboveAverage said...

Also - looks like California Chinese food for dinner tonight.

Can I get you guys anything?

Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside said...

This should be the Willie Randolph thread! I don’t know if he’s filling in for John or Suzyn, and it will only be a few innings

Stang said...

Willie Randolph is a great New Yorker, like Truman Capote or Roy Cohn.

Publius said...

A shot across Boonie's bow. Cash-ive aggressive move.

DickAllen said...

Where would the Yankees be without the Twinkies over the last five years?

HoraceClarke66 said...

Al-so...that wins gives the Yanks 82 on the season. Which makes 30 winning seasons in a row. Only the SECOND longest such streak in Yankees history.

And to think: some people feel we complain too much!

AboveAverage said...

HC99 - is there an easy place to find where all of our # of win predictions we made for this season?

I wanted to have a review and chuckle.

JM said...

Marwin "Not At All a First Baseman" Gonzales playing first base.

JM said...

Hicks can't hit, but he can sure foul pitches off.

DickAllen said...

Since 2000, the Yankees are 118-45 against the Twins in the regular season, and 16-2 against them in the postseason.

JM said...

Double steal.

JM said...

What was that, 35 pitches in the first inning?

Rufus T. Firefly said...

AA, there's a link for predictions on the main page. I had 83

TheWinWarblist said...

ART FUCKIN' DITHER!!!

YOU ARE EN FEUGO, HOSS!!!

EN FUCKIN' FEUGO!!!

AboveAverage said...

Thank you Rufus - I'll get an egg roll in your honor

TheWinWarblist said...

I predicted 80 wins and only 80 wins and I still feel that These Our 2022 New York Yankees® could still somehow manage that.

AboveAverage said...

HAHAHAHA Winny

JM said...

I said 93? Crowded field around that number.

HoraceClarke66 said...

I admit it: I said 77.

Hicks is 8 for 74, since July 28th. But hitting leadoff. Of course.

TheWinWarblist said...

Judge started play this morning with 330 total bases? That's preposterous.

JM said...

The Ace is displeased.

JM said...

Let's see... this game, we have Not a First Baseman along with Not an Ace. Fun stuff.

AboveAverage said...

The perfect recipe for a win

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Hicks is playing WHY?

Rufus T. Firefly said...

AA

For gas station sushi, I recommend the english meat pies.

AboveAverage said...

Because he’s out best at bunting, Rufus.

AboveAverage said...

Thanks for the tip!

Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside said...

Wow did John get angry at Suzyns suggestion that someone on west coast might be MVP and not Judge!

AboveAverage said...

“Garlick is going to need a steady diet of…..”

AboveAverage said...

Kay is incorrect- Knoblauch means Garlic in German not in Greek. Sorry Michael.

JM said...

I heard that, Beauregard. He was really pissed off.

JM said...

AA...yes. My wife routinely called him Garlic. Bernie Williams was Schildkruete. Turtle.

Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside said...

He had a good point, it’s Most Valuable Player, not most unique.

TheWinWarblist said...

First and second, no outs. Another moment ripe with hilarity!

JM said...

Ralph!!!!!!!!!

JM said...

Salami!!!!!!

JM said...

Florial bunts for a hit!!!!

My God, what's happening???

TheWinWarblist said...

Ralph? Ralph Kiner-Falefa? What the fuck is Ralph?

TheWinWarblist said...

A drag bunt hit!? WHAT IS HAPPENING!!??!!!!

JM said...

Funny, Sterling was complaining that Cole throws too many pitches, and Kay talks about Ryan throwing too many pitches.

JM said...

Yeah, Ralph Kiner-Falafel.

JM said...

Totally safe. Bigly.

JM said...

Hicks won't bunt and he should.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Funny, JM, my wife called him "Garlic Head," too. I just called him "Blockhead." But affectionately.

JM said...

In a nice way.

Doug K. said...

My wife used to call him, "that stupid fucking idiot who can't throw to first from 15 feet away"

Doug K. said...

in a nice way.

JM said...

Of course.

AboveAverage said...

Just uhm, always call him late for dinner

ranger_lp said...

Florial now batting .111…

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Wow, Squiggy gave them seven.

Unexpected, given the tantrum I expected over the late start.

HoraceClarke66 said...

14 Ks for Squiggy. Nice. But 2 more innings (shudder, groan).

JM said...

We have four runs. It feels like a laugher.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Torres swings at a ball outside the strike zone, one that would've loaded the bases with 1 out. And...pops it up. Sigh. I know, he's had a good day—for him. But he's so bad.

TheWinWarblist said...

Florial has a multi-hit game. Can the Twins please permanently move to the AL East?

TheWinWarblist said...

It wasn't playing in New York. Moving to Minnesota didn't help. ICS is just a bad player.

JM said...

That guy's name was Garlick.

JM said...

Win, he still sucks.

AboveAverage said...

HICKS for the inning ending . . . . ?

HoraceClarke66 said...

I say we red-light Hicks throughout this entire at-bat.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Miracle!!!!

JM said...

Jesus, Hicks came through. Three run double.

TheWinWarblist said...

I shall fart in Hick's general direction.

ranger_lp said...

Finally…

AboveAverage said...

DOUBLE!!!

JM said...

Kiner slam, Florial bunt hit, Hicks big double.

Something weird is going on.

JM said...

We have entered the fifth dimension. Up, up and away.

ranger_lp said...

Twins waving white flag on this one…

HoraceClarke66 said...

Looked like Judge almost had that guy. But took the walk!

HoraceClarke66 said...

You know, JM, as a great man once said...

HoraceClarke66 said...

So for once, Torres knows the strike zone—and the ump doesn't.

HoraceClarke66 said...

I said...as a great man once said...

JM said...

You can't predict baseball, Suzyn.

ranger_lp said...

Yankees Win!!!

JM said...

Sweeperino.

HoraceClarke66 said...

EXACTLY, JM!

TheWinWarblist said...

Thu-uhuhuhu-uhuhuh-UHUH-UHUHUH-aaaaaaaahhh-aaaahh-UHH These Our 2022 New York Yankees/Hudson Valley Renegades WIN!!! AGAIN!!!

HoraceClarke66 said...

A long day's journey into...happiness.

TheWinWarblist said...

What the fuck just happened? Oh. Oh. Wait. It was the Twins. The Hudson Valley Renegades can beat the Twins.

HoraceClarke66 said...

The Carmine Hose managed to lose 1-0 in Tampa tonight, leaving 10 men on base.

Great effort, guys.

I have a subscription to the "Athletic" which IMHO has some top-notch baseball reporting and analysis. Two articles over the past few days really caught my eye. One concerns Joe Maddon and his critique of, interestingly enough, analytics. His opinion on its influence on the game mirrors the throng of smart people who frequent this blog.

The other article is Jim Bowden's top fifty (plus ten, who missed. Silly Wabbit). We have Perazza, Volpe, and the Martian. He likes all three, but not enough to start talking the HOF. What is worrisome is the amount of high-end young talent bubbling in the Orioles pipeline, they will be a handful very soon. And the Rays, in spite of a fairly lengthy run keep finding talent. The Yankees have certainly had some bad "luck" with injuries of late, but the Rays have lost a staggering amount of talent this season and are still snapping at our teams' asses. THAT team manages to keep the stiff upper lip, while our team has a rather fat looking lip. Their young replacements come to the Majors understanding the game, our replacements look like AA talent, trying to make the Magic Angle of Contact, or "really spin that Sumbitch". This is nothing new on this blog, but watching the last few games SHOULD expose Cashman's Digital Baseball by the Numbers to be a fraud, which has accomplished nothing more than buy The Brain an extra five years of employment. I'm of the opinion that constantly firing GMs is a recipe for disaster, but so is continuing allowing The Brain to continue his reign. Showalter should have been hired as the GM ten years ago.

JM said...

I read that Maddon article and meant to mention it yesterday. Interesting that he isn't against analytics, but is really against the pervasive and overly controlling way they're being used in the clubhouse and dugout to override common sense decisions.

Have to agree with him. It's out of control.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Thanks, guys; interesting to hear.

Yeah, it's the fanaticism of the Sabremetricious that gets me. Yes, usually a bunt is a waste of an out. But there are circumstances when it might be the best play.

That is—was—one of the best things about baseball: the diversity of the ways to win. Not anymore!
