Nonetheless, it is time to make a few predictions on the roster:
1. Drury will start at third. There is a chance he will turn out to be an asset. It is highly likely he will help us more than Headley did.
2. Wade will start at second base. If he "flashes," he will remain there until Torres comes a knocking at the door. However; it is possible Wade can protect himself.....Torres is slow and Wade is fleet. SPEED KILLS. Maybe, just maybe, Wade is much better than anyone thinks.
3. If McKinney can get some more at bats, and deliver effectively, he might make this team. If he looks at a called third strike, at any time, he is gone to Scranton.
4. Domingo German should be in the bullpen, if we keep 12.
I have at last two high risk predictions ( McKinney could already be gone, for all I know ).
But I favor surprises.

So probably 4, non-catcher reserve spots, and Gardner and Walker, I think we can assume, are locks.
That leaves Toe/Austin/McKinney to compete for the other 2. I see some other blog is saying Torreyes is gone, but I can't see that happening yet, anyway, considering how versatile he is, and how well he's played this spring.
Austin-McKinney is practically a toss-up...but I think the Yanks stick with the more proven quantity in Austin.
Is Wade that good? I don't know, but he did outplay Gleyber this spring, and since he did I think you have to give him the job. And if you do that, why not let Torres go down to Scranton and work the rust off?
HOW COULD TORREYES BE OUT?
HE HAS BEEN THE IDEAL UTILITY MAN, THAT, TO BE HONEST, YOU REALLY DON'T MIND WHEN HE PLAYS FOR AN INJURED STARTER, OR SPELLS SOMEONE ON A DAY OFF, HE'S THAT GOOD.
NOT TO MENTION, A HUGE FAVORITE IN THE CLUBHOUSE- EVERYBODY LOVES HIM.
LOSING TOE WOULD BE SUBTRACTION.... BY SUBTRACTION.
I second Anon's sentiments -- a needless loss. And when you think about it, the "cost" of losing him is the $4 million (or more) that Walker will be paid.
Not my money, tho.
I didn't feel very good about Toe's future when they signed Walker. Still don't. Maybe Walker can improve on Toe's .314 on-base percentage (2017). Walker's in '17 was .362. Were walker to get 300 ABs, that's another 15 times on base.
If those ARE the numbers, then the cost of each extra on-base accomplishment via Walker will be roughly $266,000.
Maybe he's equal to Toe, or better, ss a fielder (I honestly do not know).
And maybe they don't need a weird team-spirit good-in-the-dugout guy. Maybe all you need on hand are CC and Gardner to "spiritually" weather the rough times.
ON THE OTHER HAND: If Torreyes goes to AAA, maybe someone will fall in a hole, and he'll magically re-appear. It happens, you know.
We've all been thinking bad thoughts about Ellsbury for a bunch of months, and look what has happened to him -

I think we're all agreed: Keep the Toe!
ALL-CAPS, you're right on, as usual, about what he would do against us. And Joe, that extra 15 times in 300 AB puts it all in a good perspective.
Fact is, there are plenty of guys who simply can't sit on the bench most of the time, then come through when called upon. Toe can.
And it shouldn't come down to Toe v. Walker (perfect though the names are). With Frazier and Jacoby "Slow Heal" Ellsbury still out, it will probably be more like Toe v. McKinney. I say go with the Toe!
