Good read. If I recall I was rabidly against the Bleier trade. Rabid I tell you, rabid.

Bleier turned out to be pretty decent, at least for a year. But looking at the early returns, Cashman actually did a good job of managing the Yankee assets and using them wisely. It's always hard to trade away a young talent, especially when the team was so top-heavy with old, over-the-hill players. And I wouldn't be surprised if one or two turn out to be very good MLB players. But so far, he seems to be well on the plus side of these deals.

I'm interested in what some others on the blog feel about the players profiled.

We were never going to keep Bleier, and frankly, he didn't look all that hot when with us.

I agree that Cashman - like us - still suffers PTSD from the 1980s. I don't think he'd trade a Jay Buhner or Doug Drabek, unless for someone special. But what this site doesn't show are the near misses. Last month, he was determined to trade Clint Frazier for the Pirates pitcher, whose name is blotted from my mind. I think that would have been a huge mistake. But - hey - he DIDN'T do it, so more power to him.

Right now, the Yankees look strong and their farm system is cracking. When we rip on Cashman, it's mostly muscle memory, or grand tradition. He hasn't done anything terrible. (But Sonny Gray might be the one that moves the needle.)

Yup, duque - - that Sonny Gray trade is the one that conjured up da' bad feelings...this even-older coot (sometimes aka, the Geezer) didn't like it last year, and he doesn't like it in 2018, either - - unless, of course, Gray gets votes for the 2018 CYA - - at which time, I'll eat more crows (four and twenty black-birds, baked in a pie, de rigeur)

Fact is, Cash-Puss hasn't been at his worst, these last couple of years; I still, however, remember his Greatest Hits from before the Great Re-building (may not remember yesterday too well, but b-God, I remember Cash-Puss's Greatest Hits. (put 'em on an LP, and I could sell a million of 'em). LB (No J)

Duque and Anonymous....you're both correct. Cashman has certainly made his share of really effed up blunders and trades to make Yankee fans involuntarily twitch for the rest of their lifetimes. Still, perhaps he learned something over the years or had to become more resourceful when Hal cut the budget.Or maybe the rarified air on those climbs up Landmark Square buildings in Stamford led him on some introspective journey. But he definitely has improved over his tenure as GM. Let's hope that Sonny does figure in the voting fo AL Cy Young award.

It's the Jaime Garcia trade that bothers me more than anything. Also, I still want to know what Garrett Cooper did wrong.
