With Luis Severino - the Yankee Pedro - pitching tonight (at ESPN's ridiculous 8:08 p.m. "fuck you, East Coast" time slot), it's time to call Mr. Ryan McBroom up from Scranton. The Mets need to meet McBroom's McBristles on their McQuest for the NL McPennant.
Meanwhile, a few idle Yankee McPonderings...
1. The hopeful notion, routinely blathered across the Yankiverse yesterday, that Masahiro Tanaka might only miss one start seems ludicrous. The 10-day DL does not mean a player will return in 10 days, and the Yankees are notorious for understating the depth of injuries. If Cashman says a guy has a hangnail, he probably broke the finger. The Yankees will seek the upper hand in deals, and that means publicly soft-soaping Tanaka's condition. And finally, the thing about hamstrings is that they are tricky: if a player returns too quickly - remember Starlin Castro last summer? - he re-tweaks himself and misses another month.
Obviously, I have no inside track here. But based on history, he's probably out for several weeks, at the least. Maybe the All-Star break?
2. Last night, three potential in-house replacements pitched in the Yankee farm system. Here's what happened.
For Scranton, the "front-runner" Josh Rogers didn't last through the fifth inning. He gave up five runs on - gulp - 13 hits. That's Rogers' second straight abomination, after a promising early season. A week ago, he could have been on the verge of a promotion. Now... jeez...
In Trenton, Dillon Tate pitched six innings, gave up one run on five hits - struck out five, walked one. I cannot help but wonder if the Rangers would accept Tate and a low-level arm for Cole Hamels, putting closure on the 2015 Carlos Beltran deal, which sent Tate to us. It would be an interesting cycle of development. I don't think Tate will ever reclaim his position as the best pitching prospect in baseball - not even close - but he might have a nice little career. It would be interesting if the Yankees rolled the dice on him. He turned 24 last month. He can't be a prospect forever.
Finally, and this is an insane long shot, 21-year-old Garrett Whitlock threw five innings for Tampa, giving up one run on five hits. Whitlock is 6-5 and supposedly mean and spiteful. He's already jumped up from Charleston this season. No way the Yankees would bring up a guy from Single A, unless... well, we can dream, right?
Last time I recall such a crazy promotion, it was Rollie Sheldon. All right, who's old enough to remember him?
Frankly, I doubt any of the three will be called to NYC soon. David Hale will almost surely get a shot. But for tonight, clearly, the man we need is Mister McBroom.

So endeth the JuJu.
I see what you’re doing there, Dr. Warblist.
Keep it up
Noooooouuuu!!! You MUST NOT SPAKE OF IT!!!
*zips lips....*
WE CAN DREAM ABOUT JUSTUS AND WHITLOCK, MR. DUQUE....
....BUT DON'T WE BOTH KNOW ITS GOING TO BE FUCKING DAVID HALE.
I dunno. Sheff seems like the obvious choice. We aren't going to do a trade, at least until later in the season. If German keeps pitching like he did after the first inning last night, we might not need a trade at all. And he can run a base or two without reaching for the Tiger Balm.
Yeah, I'm still fuming about Tanaka. I mean, really? Wtf?
David Hale is a loser and hasn't the Louis Cessa experiment gone on for wayyyyy too long?
Maybe they'll try getting 75-80 pitches from Adam Warren and then stretch him out. Then they'll recall either Kahnle or Gallegos for relief because they're already on the 40 roster. However, if they're smart and have some balls, they would knock off Gallegos from the 40 man and add Cody Carroll and use him in relief. He's been lights out @ Scranton.
A Yankee Haiku
A starter needed.
As the season turns toward fall.
Witasick awaits.
Doug K.
Accept this, Cole Hamhock will be a Yankee before the end of the year. You know it. I know it. He knows it. Everyone knows it. Let's hope the Yankees eat hiw salary as opposed to giving away the entire farm.
The Cole Hamhock did do a nice anti-bullying PSA. [shrugs]

Just read a blog advocating for letting Frazier anDUjar and Adams go for DeGrom....
That deal would be A DeSaster.
Looks like the only bloggers with sense is The Masters blog
When we play NL teams I think Gary Sanchez should pitch and bat ninth.
If AnDUjar goes, so do I, goddamnit
Sometimes I think those blog writers are fifth graders that just smoked a fat one.
Win, the Yanks will only eat his salary after a certain point in the year or else it'd put them over the threshold exposing them to the dreaded tax for next year. They only got under the cap so they can throw money around this off season without getting taxed to death.
I'm not sure when the date is that if they acquired him they wouldn't go over. I think it's the regular trade deadline, but it might be the confusing August deadline.
I saw Chance Adams linked to a trade for Hamels. He's old, expensive and soon to be a free agent. Not a whole lot of trade value for the Rangers so The Du would be safe.
I HEARD WE ARE CALLING UP JOHNNY LASAGNA!!!
I'M DOWN FOR THAT!
McBroom might be a curse. They haven't swept since we started calling for him. Sevy doesn't look sharp so far, lot of balls.
Lot of balls? Tehehee!!
ESPN fucking sucks. A taped -- TAPED! -- segment on the Toddfather and no fucking mention of Torres' at bat. First mention of the actual fucking game was '2-2 pitch to Gardner' with one out.
They fucking suck. Show the fucking video during the fucking commercial break assholes.
Rufus, turn on The Master.
But 9 pitches into an inning before showing the action is terrible programming.
I can't stand the delay. Drives me nuts.
If I could get the streaming game with the radio overlay, I'd be on that in a second.
Just turn the TV off and let John's voice take you away. If I was any good with technology I'd steal that idea and profit off it.
Hicks has feebly struck out looking twice, sadly Coops will see his patience and will probably add time to his tenure here.
Like I said, not sharp. Never is on extra rest
Get Drury on 1st Base, Bird and Austin are equally unbearable.
If I ever see McBroom's face around here again I will curse your house.
And Greg Bird is actually just bad. Plain and simple he's a terrible baseball player who is good at batting practice. Put Toe, Walker, or Drury on 1st. PLEASE may Hicks decide to retire tomorrow and get Clint up here. Giancarlo, "Oh he starts slow" well it's the fucking second week of June, when's he going to get going? Thank Christ Sonny is going tomorrow, not because he's a basket worth any eggs, but because we won't have to see Gary. My God is the lineup a disaster right now. Zolio and Hafner could hit better.
PayRod interviews the Toddfather. Wow. Brought me to tears. Will remember that like Reggie's 3rd.
First real pineapple in a long time. And—one of the worst games of the year from Ma Boone.
You bench Judge the day after he hits the game-winning home run? I don't care who was pitching, it was stupid.
Torres batting ninth??? If anything, he should have hit second.
Not good.
Thanks for the plug, Duque.
Gary Sanchez needs to be sent to triple A send that bum a message....his at bats are wortles right now ...and his nonchalance is irritating
I'M TELLING YOU GUYS, WHEN WE LOSE TO THE METS, IT SENDS AN ANGER/RAGE/DEPRESSION THAT ACTUALLY TOPS WHEN WE LOSE TO BOSTON.
I MEAN, I HATE BOSTON WITH A PASSION, BUT IN A STRANGE TWIST, I KIND OF RESPECT THE FACT THAT THEY PLAY IN OUR DIVISION, AND ARE OUR BITTER RIVALS.
OUR TEAM FELT LIKE WE WERE MISSING SOMETHING IRREPLACEABLE TONIGHT.
AARON JUDGE.
I AM AFRAID HE IS HURT. (THANK GOD HE HOMERED TO WIN FOR US YESTERDAY), BUT I BELIEVE HE PROBABLY SHOULDN'T HAVE PLAYED.
DOESN'T IT FEEL LIKE "HE" IS THE HEART OF OUR TEAM NOW?
IT SURE FELT THAT WAY WITHOUT HIM.
You are right, ALL-CAPS. They are lying to us about Judge just as they lied to us about him last year about his shoulder injury, while he spiraled into a seemingly endless slump.
Tonight was a golden opportunity that we blew, because our hitting is getting worse and worse.
And Joe F., no need to send Sanchez to Triple-A. Put him on the bench. Catch him once a week to give Romine a rest, until he feels like doing something about it.
Gloom gloom darkness cloak of despair slough of despond ...
McBroom is bad JuJu, plain and simple. And so is Gary Sanchez. Posada would be as effective. Or have Johnny Bench slap on some Blue-Emu and get him in there. Anybody but Sanchez.
Hoss, You just don't understand the Torres logic of Boone. Batting ninth is a privilege. It's the "second lead off" position. You always want one of your best hitters getting fewer at bats. That makes those at bats more rare and valuable. Simple economics.
You're right, KD; I don't know why I didn't understand this.
Plus, having Torres and the leadoff guy back to back really enhances Boone's wild, disruptive running game. Double steals, hit-and-runs, etc., here we come.
