Hope and despair both wear the Yankee cap

Hope: Last night in the late innings, Todd Frazier made a great play, charging a slow roller, throwing off balance and getting the runner by half-a-step. The game was tied. Do or die. He made it. Give him credit. That's why the Yankees wanted a veteran 3B.

Despair: Frazier hasn't hit all season, and he won't start now. We don't need a .204 third baseman who homers every other week. Miguel Andujar is hitting .331 at Scranton. You cannot convince me that he could hit worse than Frazier... even if he doesn't make that great play. We need offense, and Frazier is horrible. Practically every other organization in baseball by now would have promoted Andujar and be playing him every day. We're stuck with .205. This is why salary dump veterans suck.

Hope: Aroldis Chapman somehow escaped in the ninth, avoiding a disastrous, spirit crushing defeat. He adjusted. He got the save. He's still a closer.

Despair: Watching it was horrible. The guy might give me PTSD. If not for Gardy, Torreyes and a ball slicing foul at the last moment, there goes the series, the comeback, maybe the AL East. I cannot adequately describe how soul-devouring that loss would have been, had not Gardy snared that ball. It's starting to look as though Chapman's contract will eventually rival Ellsbury's. Why are we continually doing this?

Hope: There are rumors that Matt Holliday will go on the disabled list.

Despair: What difference does it make? Joe will write him back into the lineup, when he returns. What will have changed? The guy has Pronked.

Hope: Dellin Betances looks solid, and the bullpen overall is stocked with power arms.

Despair: At the rate he's using those power arms, Girardi will soon blow out that advantage. (And did you see that Nick Goody has become an effective reliever for Cleveland? Ben Gamel isn't the only one who got away.)

Hope: If we win today, we escape Cleveland still alive, dignity intact. Boston comes to town next week. Our house. Still alive.

Despair: We remain a team that cannot string together three consecutive hits. We cannot score a runner from third with no outs. Our runs come from homers, and most of them are solo shots. No team wins the World Series by stringing together solo shots.

Hope: Aaron Judge has had a few hits lately. How wrong we were last year, thinking he couldn't adjust?

Despair: Gary Sanchez, flailing at pitches in the dirt. How drunk were we last year, thinking he was a future MVP?

I was both wrong and drunk last night, and a little loud, too. This team has one good week and I'm singing and dancing, everything is sunshine. Then they revert to losing form and I start looking to Voldemort for attitude advice. I feel like I've been in a car accident and it's going to take a few weeks before i can walk straight. This team is no world beater. Cash needs to trade for more old guys on the down slope of their careers.

"there goes the AL East"

That's the problem. We have lost sight of the original plan. Screw the AL East (easy for me to say. I'm not an owner or a player, although I am a fan. What I mean is, if we do something in the offseason, great, but our primary purpose this season should have been rebuilding and playing the young guys. You alluded to this with the Frazier comments. I don't care about the AL East this season. Sure, I ALWAYS want to win and go all the way, but not at the expense of the future. I don't want a cheap high today by mortgaging my house. Okay, I need more coffee, I'll admit, but you all know what I'm saying. You said the same thing for months. FORGET THE PENNANT RACE. We need to focus on rebuilding. I am aware that this has become impossible, that it may have never been possible with Captain Cash at the helm of the U.S.S. Caine. The problem is that the Executive Officer is "Randy" Randy Levine and nobody else on this rust bucket has any authority to relieve the captain of his command. Commander in Chief Hal just doesn't care and we must all suffer the consequences. SCREW THE AL EAST. The real cojones move would be to play as though we're already out of it. Let the young dogs run. We'd have a helluva time and I guarantee they would turn into the germ of a dynasty. This is so disheartening.

EL DUQUE.....SPOT ON WITH THIS POST.

WE WEREN'T DRUNK LAST SEASON WATCHING SANCHEZ....HE'S A DIFFERENT GUY RIGHT NOW!!!!

DOESN'T GO THE OTHER WAY ANYMORE, NOT PATIENT, NOT HAPPY TO TAKE THE WALK.

HE WAS DOING ALL THESE THINGS LAST YEAR.

NOT WILLING TO PUT HIS BODY IN FRONT OF BALLS IN THE DIRT.... THROWING OK, BUT STILL NOT LIKE LAST YEAR.

I AM STARTING TO BE HORRIFIED EVERY TIME THEY PUT UP THE STATS OF HOW GREAT HEADLEY HAS BEEN SINCE JULY 1ST.....

HORRIFIED THAT CASHMAN WILL SAY, "HEY...WE GOT OUR 1ST BASEMAN OF THE FUTURE! IT'S CHASE HEADLEY!"

WOULD LOVE ANDUJAR TO BE AT 3RD INSTEAD OF FRAZIER....WE CAN'T HIT... .205 WON'T WORK..... WHY CAN'T WE JUST MAKE ANDUJAR THE EVERYDAY DH NOW?..... HOLLIDAY IS A HORROR.

JUST REPLACE HOLLIDAY, WITH ANDUJAR!.... WON'T COST US A PENNY OR A PLAYER!

BE READY FOR WAR THESE NEXT 2 WEEKS. THE SCHEDULE MAKER ALWAYS TRIES HIS BEST TO MAKE IT AS ARDUOUS AS HE CAN FOR THE YANKEES, (NOT TO MENTION AS EASY AS HE CAN FOR THE METS)...... WILPON- FRIENDS WITH SELIG & MANFRED- MAKES THE SCHEDULE HAPPEN THAT WAY EVERY YEAR.

JAYS, RED SOX, METS, AND RED SOX AGAIN.

PUT YOUR HELMETS ON.

THIS IS WAR.

There are profits to be made making a run at the AL East. Going with youth will do nothing but defer potential profits and likely put them at risk. As we say back home, a profit deferred is a profit denied. Even A Ferengi can not predict the future. Why risk certain profit? Only a fool would be so reckless and Hal, Holy be His name, is no fool.

WELL, MY HELMET IS ON FOR WAR, BUT ONE OF OUR BEST SOLDIERS HAS BEEN TAKEN AWAY!

JORDAN MONTGOMERY WAS SENT DOWN TODAY!

THE NEXT 13 GAMES ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT OF THE YEAR!

CAN'T WE WAIT UNTIL HE MAKES ANOTHER 3 STARTS, THEN REST HIM?

NOW IS NOT THE TIME!!!!
