“From here to that couch — I never saw it after that,” he said, pointing to a sofa in the Yankees clubhouse. “All I felt was impact, and then falling on the ground. The whole side of my face was gone — I felt sharp pieces in my mouth. I was trying to be soft with them because I didn’t want to choke, but the pain was excruciating.”

I GUESS THIS ANSWERS WHY HE CAN'T HIT A SLIDER FROM A RIGHT HANDER.
...BUT WHAT ABOUT THE FASTBALL FROM THE RIGHT HANDER?
THE CHANGE UP FROM THE RIGHT HANDER?
THE FASTBALL FROM THE LEFT HANDER?
THE SLIDER FROM THE LEFT HANDER?
THE CHANGE UP FROM THE LEFT HANDER?
THE .....
OH, FORGET IT.

When I read the article, I realize we should cut him slack.
In truth, the dude should have retired and lived well.
It can't be worth getting drilled again. He won't get a medal of honor for courage and, even if he did, so what?
He would either be dead or forever damaged.
The game isn't worth it.
His future is.
The Yankee management who made the deal ( because they needed a showpiece and a gate attraction ) are the people we should be booing and hating. They don't give damn about the player, just what he might do for their income.
I will always cut a player some slack for standing in against a major-league pitch, and for enduring some terrible injury.
But let's face it. The problems Stanton has had since he got here sound all too much like the sorts of injuries juicers get—guys who build up their muscles to the point where they eventually break down the rest of their bodies.
Maybe he's not juicing. I doubt it, but maybe he's not.
But even so, in that case, he goes on stubbornly designing a body that would win him body sculpting contests, but which he can't keep on the field in baseball—for which he receives an obscene amount of money and a valuable roster spot on my favorite team.
The worst was last year in the ALCS, when he was even able to hit a home run, but then declared himself unable to play. But also unwilling to get off the roster for the rest of that playoff series.
He's ripping off the Yankees, but that's their own lookout, for keeping someone like Brian Cashman in his position. He's also ripping off us fans, though, which we had no say in.
I have some friends in New Mexico who would just LOVE, LOVE, to meet up with him, in the case that he meanders close to their neighborhood (fellow Yankee fans). LB (No J)
I didn't like Stanton, right from the start. I thought his acquisition was wrong, and flew directly in the face of the fruitful youth movement, fully in play in the Bronx for the first time in decades. We didn't need him, and still don't. That said, and despite the murmurs of juicing (I hear you HC66, and do NOT discount that), this piece did really alter my opinion of him. What a horrific thing to go through, and in front of thousands of people, no less. I'm with Alfonso on this; he should just walk away from the game. Maybe those romance novel publishers are looking for a new male model for their cover art, now that Fabio is getting a little long in the tooth...
God riddance, G!
NO SHOT OF WALKING AWAY FROM THE GAME. (WE ALL WISH).
WHY?
THERE'S STILL $250 MILLION REASONS.
WHAT A DISASTROUS DEAL.
