Cuban Beat

Sitting down with my morning mug of Café’ Bustello and reading Duque’s fear of the Yankees looking into Yasiel Puig got me thinking...  OK maybe not him, but who else is out there.

Let's face it the Rays just scored big with Randy Arozarena.  There have to be Cubans that would be better choices than Puig.

My first stop was...

Did any of you know that Yoenis Cespedes has a brother?

Yoelqui Céspedes, OF, Cuba

"The younger half-brother of Mets outfielder Yoenis Céspedes, Yoelqui played for Cuba's World Baseball Classic and Caribbean Series teams in 2017... He revamped his swing since defecting last summer, along with adding at least 15 pounds of muscle, and now looks almost exactly like his older brother in the batter's box."

Uh... he’s very highly ranked but, speaking of adding 15 pounds of muscle quickly... did you know that Jeremy Giambi looked almost exactly like Jason in the batters box?

So... no.

As it turns out I could only find one other player worth considering.

21-year-old outfielder/pitcher Oscar Colas is seeking a deal with an MLB club after slashing .302/.350/.516 in Japan last season while touching 95 mph on his fastball as a left-handed pitcher.”

Lefty power hitter with contact skills and a cannon for an arm?

We missed out on Otani.  I know he's an outfielder but maybe he can play center.

Either way. Let's get this guy.

I'm just so sad with all this, but I get the second vaccine shot this Thursday. So we're looking at sad in person baseball next year. Hooray. I guess?

Hal, do the City a favor and die, you miserable glob.

Glad to hear it, Warbler.

And I say, get Colas! Or at least, Uncolas!

I wonder how long before I see a Yankees column with actual hard information in it. Must be tough trying to make something out of nothing every day.

Indeed. And how are those negotiations with The Machine going?

"Hey, D.J., so how about this: THREE pairs of shower slippers on the season. Gratis! Plus...your own Metrocard. For $88, so the fares come out evenly. If they go up again, we can renegotiate. D.J.? D.J.?"
