"It's like reverse Moneyball."

Over at Athletics Nation, a lot of the commenters sound like... well, they sound like us.

This blows

I almost puked

I was prepared to be really excited about this trade as a seller. I'm not, because the return sucks.

A’s trade Sonny Gray to the Yankees for two injured prospects and a guy who’s been dogging it for most of the past two seasons.

This is fucking horrible. Yankees made off like bandits

But look on the bright side -- the Yankees had to give up their two best seriously-injured prospects!

There is a very, very real chance we just traded Sonny for 3 players who will never contribute even a modicum at the major league level. We got absolutely had. Just admit it.

It's like reverse Moneyball.

Not a single elite talent, or even top-100 prospect, for a top-20 pitcher with 2+ years of cheap control. One player needs a wheelchair to play the OF, the other is a pitcher missing a ligament in his elbow.

I fucking despise this trade

Will Fowler's wheelchair also be included?

Former Yankee prospect Peter O'Brien was designated for assignment by the Dodgers.
Will dumbass Cashman get him back or will he become the next J.T. Snow somewhere else?

"Will Fowler's wheelchair be included" made me spit all over my screen. They're all so sad because they were convinced they were getting Clint or Gleyber. On twitter they were so excited, which one would they get, would they get both? They'd definitely get one and Florial. That being said, the Yankees didn't fleece them nor did Cashman shit the bed.

Does anyone follow the delusions of grandeur that is Mets twitter? Now that is funny. Conforto better than Judge, the Mets have better prospects and far deeper farm system than the Yankees (I read that last week). Did you guys know that the Mets are the only team to suffer injuries and they'd be the best team in the league if everyone was healthy? They christened tomorrow the dawn of a new era...two years after their last dawn. It's honestly like viewing an insane asylum.

looks like we're not the only insane asylum being held captive by the front office of our favorite team

LEINSTERY!.... YES! YES! YES!

2 OF MY CLOSE FRIENDS ARE DELUSIONAL MET FANS.

WHAT YOU POSTED IS EXACTLY KIND OF NONSENSE I HAVE BEEN HEARING AND PUTTING UP WITH FOR YEARS!

CONFORTO BETTER THAN JUDGE.

ROSARIO, ROSARIO ROSARIO, BROWN, BROWN ,BROWN

THEY ARE ENTITLED TO A BAD YEAR BECAUSE OF THE INJURIES.

DAWN OF A NEW ERA, (2 YEARS AFTER THEIR LAST DAWN)!...HILARIOUS! ..I HEARD THAT TOO!

I TOLD THEM IT LOOKS LIKE THEY HAVE TO REBUILD NEXT YEAR....THEY ARE LETTING LOADS OF GUYS GO, HAVE NO CATCHER, NO 3RD BASEMAN, AND WILL GO WITH 2 ROOKIES AT SS AND 1ST BASE NEXT YEAR.... I WAS BEING HONEST!

THEY BOTH TOLD ME I COULDN'T BE SERIOUS GIVEN ALL THE TEAM'S TALENT!

THEY ARE TOTALLY DELUSIONAL!

.....AND MY FAVORITE PART IS WE CAME IN AND BARNSTORMED NEW YORK AND TOOK IT OVER VIRTUALLY OVERNIGHT, WITH ALL OUR INJURIES TO BOOT!... I CAN SMELL THE JEALOUSY...
LOVE IT.

Well said, ALL-CAPS.

But of course, the Mets sought their revenge by doing their best to get absolutely fleeced by the Red Sox.

Check out this ecstatic analysis from Beantown:

http://www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2017/07/boston_red_sox_trade_dave_domb.html

Essentially, they traded their effective closer—now Kimbrel's set-up man—for 3 right-handed, minor-league relievers, all struggling at their respective levels. Mind-boggling. And so...Mets.

...YES HORACE....AND I ALSO HAPPEN TO THINK THEY TRADED DUDA TO BACKDOOR SCREW US BY SENDING HIM TO A TEAM IN OUR DIVISION......

HE COULD BE A ANOTHER VERSION OF DANIEL MURPHY AND JUSTIN TURNER PART III ....
DUDA ALWAYS SCARES ME WHEN HE COMES UP..... AND WOULDN'T YOU KNOW IT?

BANG! HOME RUN AGAINST US THE FIRST GAME HE FACED US.
BANG! UPPER DECK! THE SECOND GAME HE FACED US.

THAT WAS THE ONE MET I WOULDN'T HAVE MINDED THE YANKS GETTING.
HE'S STREAKY AT TIMES BUT HE'S DANGEROUS.

NOW WE GOT TO FACE HIM FOR WHO KNOWS HOW MANY YEARS IF TAMPA KEEPS HIM.

Speaking of which, ALL-CAPS, the Post is writing that this could be the end of an era for the Mets.

Huh.

I guess eras don't last as long as they used to.

Don't worry about Duda, he's a free agent and the Rays don't sign anyone with even the slightest bit of leverage. He'll end up on the Giants or some team other team that won't compete.

The worst part about Mets fans is they believe in just nonsense. They still think David Wright is an All-Star caliber player, but won't accept that serious injures can't be brushed off like a sore hamstring. They think over the hill lugnuts that comprise their infield (Reyes, Cabrera, Walker) are more talented than Didi and Castro. At the height of Gardy, Hicks, and Judge tearing up baseball earlier this year, when combined they were statistically #1 in every major offensive category Mets fans were saying none would even start on the Mets. They thought that the Yankees would trade Gleyber and Clint For Reed and Duda. They mock the 27 rings argument, but resort to "We made the world series two years ago" to excuse the fact they are 20 games out of their division.

The list goes on, and I want to believe that these people I've never met are just incredibly sarcastic, but part of me is afraid there are people that delusional out in the world. I don't envy you ANONYMOUS that you have to actually have full conversations with these lunatics. I thankfully just poke my head in every so often to see what's going on like some lousy inner city school principal.

.....AND TO HORACE....

DON'T WORRY ABOUT ADDISON REED GOING TO THE RED SOX,

HE IS GOING TO GET SLAPPED AROUND IN THE AMERICAN LEAGUE, AND I THINK BADLY.

LAST NIGHT, BIG SPOT FOR HIM, BANG!- HE GIVES UP HOME RUN.
