ranger posted a tweet in the last thread. That same guy he posted had a later tweet saying the Yankees know they are bargaining from a position of strength. God I hope so. Can't have Coops blowing the last 4 years of prospect accumulation on a guy who is never on the field.
The only thing more terrifying than Stanton: the Kyle Schwarber for Betances and Chance Adams deal that John Harper is pitching in the Daily News. Harper admits that Betances could well bounce back and Adams looks great, but points out that the Yankees have other terrific pitching prospects, and plays up Schwarber's accomplishments.
His arguments are so insane and patronizing that I thought he should be depicted explaining it all to Sherman, of "Mr. Peabody and Sherman" fame, from the "Rocky & Bullwinkle Show."
SHERMAN: Gee, Mr. Harper, I don't get it. Why should the Yankees get a guy who hit all of .211 last year?
HARPER: Oh, Sherman, he wasn't that bad. Why, Kyle Schwarber hit .253 in the second half of 2017.
SHERMAN: Is .253 good, Mr. Harper?
HARPER: Well, not really, Sherman. But probably he would have been better all year long, if he hadn't missed almost all of 2016 with an injury.
SHERMAN: But should he really be injury-prone at just 24, Mr. Harper? And isn't he injury-prone because he isn't in shape? Doesn't that imply a less than overwhelming dedication to the game?
HARPER: Careful, Sherman, or you will be sent up to the Gammonites with no supper. Besides, it doesn't matter if Schwarber can't play the field at 24. What matters is that we need somebody in the DH role.
SHERMAN: Why is that, Mr. Harper? Why can't all sorts of guys who can hit alternate as DH?
HARPER: Because players have roles, Sherman. Starters start, closers close, and designated hitters designate-hit. Anything else will lead to moral anarchy in the universe. Trust me, Sherman, every sportswriter believes this sort of thing. And anyway, the real point is that the Yankees have pitching prospects to spare.
SHERMAN: But how can you know what prospects will work out, Mr. Harper.
HARPER: You can't, Sherman.
SHERMAN: So why name some then, Mr. Harper.
HARPER: Because it's a long winter, Sherman, and there are many column inches to fill between now and the end of February.
SHERMAN: But gee, Mr. Harper, aren't talented young pitchers like blue-chip stocks? Do financial analysts in the papers advise people to get rid of some of their blue-chip stocks for risky investments, just to fill up column inches?
HARPER: Sherman, I think I hear your friend, Mr. Peabody, outside. If you want logic, maybe you should go talk to him. I have a sports column to write.
Also: Ohtani signs with the ANGELS? And there's going to be an investigation?
I don't get it at all. I thought Seattle trading three of their top 10 prospects for IFA cash, and getting Dee Gordon to put in CF (shades of Juan Samuel!) was another tell that the fix was in from the start, and Ohtani never really intended to sign with anybody but the Mariners...
...which, obviously, was not the case. Once again, as William Goldman—or was it Yogi?—said, "Nobody knows nothing." Certainly not me.
But I still don't get it. Why would Seattle do all that? Did Ohtani lead them on in some weird way? Making him more the narcissist than ever? And what about his not wanting to play in big cities?
Maybe he just did not want to play in big cities that were suffering apocalyptic fires. Could it be that he likes to watch things burn?

WOW....
COOPERSTOWN!
GUYS....THE LATE NEWS TONIGHT?
YANKS ARE CLOSING IN ON GIANCARLO STANTON.
BRACE YOURSELVES FOR IMPACT.
HEY, IF WE CAN ERASE AN OUTFIELDER OR 2 (ELLSBURY OR EVEN HICKS), GIVE UP LOW LEVEL B TYPE PROSPECTS, AND BE UNDER THE LUXURY TAX FOR NEXT SEASON?...
....THEN I WOULD SAY "YES".
STAY TUNED.

LATEST RUMOR...
IT'S A DONE DEAL.
WAITING FOR THE NAMES.
RUMOR THAT IT'S CASTRO, AND GARDY FOR STANTON.
HANG TIGHT.
STILL A RUMOR.

Stanton is terrifying, unless we're giving up Ellsbury, Luis Cessa, and Heady Lamar. I don't like it at all.
Also: Ohtani signs with the ANGELS? And there's going to be an investigation?

And what's the investigation about?
Curiouser and curiouser!
The King, aka Jim Leyritz, aka A Very Poor Driver, reports via twitter that Stanton to Yanks is a done deal.
THESE ARE THE NAMES OF THE PLAYERS RUMORED TO BE GOING IN THIS DEAL.
STARLIN CASTRO (LOOKS DEFINITE)
CHASE HEADLEY (LOOKS DEFINITE)-YES!
CLINT FRAZIER (RUMORED)
MIGUEL ANDUJAR (RUMORED)
JUSTUS SHEFFIELD (RUMORED EARLIER, BUT NOT LATER IN THE NIGHT).
....AND SOMEHOW, WE ARE GETTING MARTIN PRADO AS WELL.
TO BE HONEST, IF WE TRADE THOSE 3 PROSPECTS (NOT TO MENTION CASTRO), I WILL BE PISSED OFF.
I THOUGHT WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE "FLEECING" DJ IN THIS DEAL BY NOT GIVING UP TOP PROSPECTS???
WELL, IF THESE 3 ARE INCLUDED, COOPERSTOWN SPIT THE BIT.....AGAIN.
WITH THAT SAID, LETS TRY TO BE HAPPY NOW THAT WE HAVE A SPECIAL PLAYER HEADED OUR WAY.
THIS TEAM SHOULD BE EXCITING AS HELL.
THE PROSPECT OF GLEYBER TORRES STARTING AT 2ND BASE FROM OPENING DAY ON, GETS ME MORE EXCITED THAN HAVING STANTON!
GO YANKS!
IT'S FUCKING 2:55 AM!
Agreed, ALL-CAPS! That's WAY too much.
Though I think the Schwarber deal would have been even worse, in that we would have got Schwarber.
It's happened...

If we give up the wrong group of players here, I am not watching anymore.
