How could they pass on Ty Austin? And is Mason Williams still a Yankee?

I had to drive to upstate Mass this morning and I drove back around lunch time. All in all, I spent about 3 hours listening to Boston sports radio.

The consensus among the Boston media concerning the Stanton trade is:

1) The Yankees committed a "heist" in getting this trade done.

2) Sending Castro plus two lesser prospects for the reigning MVP and home run leader is proof that Jeter was desperate and that the Yanks kept their heads and exploited the Marlins' situation.

3) Red Sox Nation is praying that they don't do some sort of knee-jerk "statement trade" to prove that they're still in the hunt. No one ever brought up the Yanks getting Ellsbury as their knee-jerk statement trade and I was tempted to call in to let them know that they were all on the right track in hoping to avoid such a thing.

4) A writer from ESPN who works out of NYC and covers the Yanks said that 1) giving up so little in the way of personnel, 2) dumping Castro's salary, and 3) getting just enough cash from the Marlins still keeps the Yanks on track to come in under the luxury tax threshold. He characterized this as "the perfect storm trade" and observed that the Yanks would have been fools to make this trade under any other terms and they would have been fools NOT to make the trade under the terms they agreed to.

It was all interesting.

I'M READING ITS 3 GUYS...

STARLIN CASTRO
JORGE GUZMAN (I LOVED HIM THOUGH- 102 MPH- 19 YEAR OLD STRIKE THROWER).
JOSE DEVERS

PLUS I BELIEVE FLORIDA PAID US $30 MILLION BACK ON THE BIG CONTRACT.

YOU ALL KNOW I'M NOT A CASHMAN GUY...

.....BUT THIS DEAL LOOKS LIKE A BIG WINNER, AND IT'S NOT WHAT YOU THINK.

FREEING UP GLEYBER TORRES TO PLAY 2ND BASE ALL YEAR MAY BE THE BEST PART OF THIS DEAL.

NOW IF WE CAN JUST GET HEADLEY THE HELL OUTTA HERE.

IF—and that's a big, All-Caps IF—that's the deal, then yeah, it's a steal.

I liked Guzman, too, and Devers obviously has good bloodlines.

But...but...

Yeah, I gotta go with it. IF.

Deal was too good to be true...and for once it was...true.

Why not do another 1 year with Frazier and bring up Andujar at some point this season? My question is are the Yanks going to play the tree's on the corners with Gardie in CF? Any chance they deal Hicks for decent prospects so Clint gets some playing time?
