A Little ( incoherent ) Who Do You Like, So Far?

I have seen a few "games" and here are some early comments.

1.  I like Mike Ford for first base.  He seems to be a quality, confident hitter. And he is agile around the bag, for a large person.  He knows how to play first base.

2.  I like Mike Schmidt ( Wait a minute!  Who wouldn't?  He is in the Hall of Fame ).  I may have the first name wrong....he is the pitcher from South Carolina who has already had TJ surgery.     Coney liked him also,  if you were watching yesterday. And, given that he is a college graduate, the time he has put in ( though limited ) at the minor league level, may be enough.

3.  I like Louisaga. ( I still can't spell it....we call him Lasagne ) He has an arm like German.  He has big league experience already,  and he is young.  If he is gaining confidence and poise, he can be a lights out reliever. I think he remains too fast-ball reliant to be a starter, and he needs a second pitch he can rely upon even in relief.  But his potential is high.

4.  I want to believe in Tyler Wade as a back-up SS.  He is a good glove and can run, but I still remain concerned about his hitting. When he faces " real" pitchers in " real " games,  I have no confidence he will hit anything.  This will be his last shot in NY.  Make it or be gone.

5.  I like  Estrada  (the guy we saw last year....there may be more than one in camp ).  His name starts with a "T" .....and then I'm not sure (Thiro ,Theo ??).  He is a quality infielder...can also play the outfield...and is a good hitter.

6.  I do not like Mike King yet.  He seems to have a fastball, and that is it. No one can win with just a fastball...and his is average ( mph 92-94 ) but well-placed, I guess ).

7.  There is a minor league guy who hit a homer ( several games back ) and plays the outfield.  He might have been a really good hitter in AA or AAA last year.  I can't find his name.  I think he runs well, also.  I like him.

8.  I have no basis for this at all;  but I think Miguel Andujar may become a really good outfielder. I hope they drop the first base thing ASAP.  He can back-up at third, and start in left.

9.  Not sure what to think about Florial.  Looks competent in CF.  He may have  a psyche that requires him to be in the majors.  In other words, while the Yanks will want to see more of him in AA or AAA, it may drive him nuts to be there......or worse, to a horrible performance.  And a trade.

10.  Red Thunder still scares me as an outfielder.  I have never seen a guy so awkward at his normal position. He played a ball off the wall in RF the other day ( he played the carom well ), and tried to throw the guy out stretching the hit to a double. His throw barely remained in the ball park, and it took three guys backing up the play to finally gather the ball.  I fear that, despite the hard work he has out in, he is a DH or nothing.

Anyone else?  Always fun to ID guys now who might be huge surprises.

I liked Herrera, tall outfielder, nice lefty swing, on base a lot, fast for his size.

AGREED WITH THE MIKE KING ASSESSMENT.

LOVING CLARKE "KENT" SCHMIDT. (#5 STARTER?..LETS BE AGGRESSIVE AND DO IT IF HE KEEPS THIS UP)..

AGREEING WITH THE ANDUJAR, "DROP FIRST BASE" OPINION. LEFT AND 3RD ARE ENOUGH. DON'T GIVE THIS KID TOO MUCH TO THINK ABOUT.

RED THUNDER IS WHERE WE MAY DIFFER A BIT.

I WANT THAT BAT IN THE LINEUP AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

THE GUY HAS A KNACK FOR BIG HITS.

WE NEED THAT IN OUR LINEUP AND IF WE COULD JUST RID OURSELVES OF THAT MISERABLE STANTON (WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE), WE COULD JUST MAKE HIM THE EVERYDAY DH.

AS FAR AS HIM BEING A LEFTFIELDER, I AGREE, HE IS SO SHAKY, BUT SO IS EVERYONE ELSE WE PUT OUT THERE.

PERHAPS THIS INJURY INSANITY FROM STANTON IS JUST WHAT WE NEED IN ORDER TO GET CLINT IN THIS LINEUP.

THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN THE MISERABLE ONE COMES BACK "HEALTHY".

THEN CASHMAN FAWNS TO THE MEDIA HOW HIS ALL STAR "STEAL" IS READY TO COME BACK TO THE LINEUP.

WHAT A GENIUS HE IS, HUH?

Yes. The Stanton thing is like the nagging head cold that won't go away.

There is simply no way that the Yankee ownership will allow Boone to sit Stanton down, once he is healthy. That will remind them that they blew $300 million on a player who actually hurts the team. Thee only means of " saving face" is ion he is always injured. Sand even that shows they are stupid. Everyone knew the guy couldn't hold up.

Much as was the case with Ellsbury and, to some extent, the renewal of A-Rod's contract.

It tells the world that these guys are among the stupidest CEOs ever created. And avoiding embarrassment at cocktail parties is their primary motivation.

I am good with Red Thunder as a DH. And, as mentioned, I have confidence in the athleticism of Andujar to play left field like a champ. Time will tell.

I think there is an easy way to get rid of, uh, heal Stanton. I think we should just keep spreading the rumor about the world-class calf injury rehab centers in Wuhan, China. He should go, take his time, see the sites, and make sure he is completely ready before he comes back...

The name is "Thairo," and yes, I still have approximately 2,700 "Thairo the Pharaoh" Egyptian head gear sets in a warehouse in the Bronx. Hoping he breaks out this year, before the dust begins to get encrusted.

...AND I FORGOT TO MENTION MIKE FORD.

YES ALPHONSO, I NEVER THOUGHT HE WOULD MAKE IT BUT AFTER SEEING THAT SMOOTH STROKE OF HIS, THIS KID JUST MIGHT BE SOMETHING OVER A FULL SEASON.

HE DOESN'T LOOK OVER MATCHED AT 1ST BASE EITHER.

HE MAY BE A PERFECT COMPLIMENT TO BROTHER LUCAS AT 1ST, AN OCCASIONAL DH OPTION, AND A PINCH HITTING THREAT TOO.

I LIKE THE FACT THAT HE HAS TRIMMED DOWN A BIT TOO.

NOT TO MENTION THE MASTER'S BEST CALL, IMO, IS "THERE'S A FORD IN THE YANKEES FUTURE..MIKE'S FORD TOUGH!"

WELCOME TO THE BIG LEAGUE'S MR.FORD...

I THINK.

LASAGNA HAS GREAT STUFF.

HIS HEALTH IS ALWAYS THE PROBLEM.

HE COULD BE A POWERFUL WEAPON BUT FOR ONLY 1 INNING, IMO.

Hoss.....you always have the best ideas.

I'll buy Stanton the plane ticket. He'll go in the back of the plane, with the people carrying chickens in wooden crates.

Alphonso, I was just being friendly, providing some support for your excellent post. No need to all caps paranoid about it. Yeah, the Stanton sitiation is a mess, starting most probably with his understandable new fixation that the next pitch will be his last, given his loud experience with a cheekish fastball. He's overcome it for 59, but every hero has to think about his next pitch. So, either take the shit that poor judgement has wrought, or figger something Russian.
