For our foreign guests, the baseball season has not yet begun. Pitchers and catchers don't report for another week or so.
But the The Yankees have a starting pitcher, for whom they paid a ton and traded away even more, will not be reporting. The 2020 season of James Paxton will...to coin a phrase...simply not begin.
Mr. James Paxton was apparently spirited off to Russia a few weeks ago for back surgery. Consider him " done and dusted" as far as adding value to this season.
He pretty much sucked last year anyway, except at the very end when he pitched well but the cheaters prevailed. They tipped his pitches in key games and we went home empty, as has become usual for the Yankees now.
Do any of you remember the plague of injuries which befell the Yankees last year? The injury focus of 2019 was upon the position players. This year, I can see the prejudice shifting to the pitching staff.
In any case, if the cheating continues, the pitching won't matter. There are a lot of alternatives to garbage cans out there.
One last concern; if Severino still sucks, Montgomery is throwing in the high 70's, Tanaka's re-built arm shreds don't hold-up, and El Chappo gets the shakes again....it will be another long, fruitless season.
Maybe Andujar can pitch.

You trade for a guy who, going into his 30th year, has never thrown more than 160 1/3 innings, and you're amazed that he's injury-prone.
On the other hand...it's too early to QUITE say, but thus far Justus Sheffield, Erik Swanson, and outfielder Dom Thompson-Williams are giving every indication that they may never amount to a hill of beans.
So, basically, you're traded slop for a lame but still useful pig. Not so bad.
As to those saying there was no improvement over the postseason, well, picture this:
Say you'd had a chance to trade Romine, Didi, and Paxton for Cole, with the guarantee that you'd get Paxton back by at least August.
Would you have done it? I would have.
This team is still better, while our main competitors are worse. Not so bad.
