This Is Why Throwing Out Titles Is Hard

Remember this?  How can you not?

Reggie Bush, pictured above, was stripped of his 2005 Heisman Trophy, and USC of its 2004 BCS Championship—as well as every win in its near-championship season of 2005—because USC violated NCAA recruiting rules.

Now, I'm not saying this is the same as the Astros scandal.  The NCAA's rules have long been so arcane, convoluted, and hypocritical that probably every big-time college football program, in reality, violates them every year.  Which makes such punishments arbitrary, to say the least.

But the result is the same.  You can't un-see USC absolutely annihilating Oklahoma in the BCS bowl game, and you can't reset that season to determine who should then really be the national champion—not to mention who should win the Heisman instead of Mr. Bush.

Would the Yankees have won the pennant?  Would they have bested the Dodgers in the World Series?  Who knows?

Therefore, I suggest that we here at IIHIIFIIC take care of the problem.  Anyone have Strat-o-matic cards for the 2017 Yanks and Dodgers?

If so, I suggest we designate one individual to manage the Yankees, another to manage the Dodgers, and a third person of impeccable character to officially roll the dice for each at-bat.  We can play out the entire World Series What Never Was, online.

Who's with me?

No one cares who would have won.

What matters is that the trophy, and all related hardware, are removed from the Houston display cases, and that the MLB record book shows " No winner" for that year. Due to cheating."

It should then be moved to the Congressional record, where cheating is honored.

I take your suggestion in the spirit I think it was given, Boss. But I'm still pretty sore about all this. Only stripping the titles of the team and the players and banning guys for life will make me less angry, if not happy.

Stay pissed. We are not going to let this go!

Get the baseball commissioner fired. Get Houston banned.

Hoss,

I like it but allow me to make a suggestion. Find someone who has a play station or x box (or similar) and then have the computer play the series. Record it. Post it on You Tube calling it the "Actual" series. Get millions of hits. Use the money to fund a box for this season's IIHIIFIIC outing.

Oddsmakers think Houston Astros batters could be sore this season.

On Monday, sportsbook William Hill set the over/under on number of Astros batters to get plunked this season at 83.5.

The Office of Offred has already put warnings out about plunking Astros. Sounds like we should plunk Offred also.

Doug K., I like your thinking. Of course, it's just possible the Yankees would win that Series...

I had settled on the idea of banging my trashcan covers every day in protest.

Problem: The trash and recycling cans are plastic.

Working on a new idea.

I agree with everyone here.
BUT-- Over the course of the long season, white-hot rage will cool. Obvious throwing at batters will create backlash.
I think an effective remedy would be a legitimate baseball strategy. Pitching coaches could instruct their staffs (publicly) to "make batters uncomfortable at the plate." If this policy applied in every game, the times when Houston or Boston batters accidentally (wink) were hit would be defensible.
It could even lead to better overall pitching.
