DEAR NEW YORK TABLOIDS

BOYCOTT MLB ON YOUR BACK PAGES UNTIL THE LOCKOUT ENDS!

We cannot evaluate these MLB earthquakes until the aftershocks are finished

Okay, it's the baseball End of Days - fires, droughts, earthquakes, plague, an infrastructure bill! - and until the smoke clears and the rioting stops, this is all we know...

1. Remember back in March, when Brian Cashman assured us the Yankees didn't need LH bats?  What a prankster! Oh, well, so much for that hilarity. They have jumpstarted their lineup with LH sluggers, the traditional Yankee look. Joey Gallo and Anthony Rizzo - (whose popularity in Chicago, frankly, stuns me; he is beloved) - could sandwich Aaron Judge and knock Giancarlo - in one of his all too regular slumps - down to sixth or seventh in the lineup. We are stronger, by far.

2. These trades will drain our farm system for years. I know, I know - nobody wants to hear cranky old el Duque rant about prospects - but, damn, we just returned to the failed strategies that launched the 14-Year Bomber Barf - from the late eighties to the mid-nineties. We have traded eight top prospects, and - listen: There will be consequences. Yesterday, Tampa unleashed upon us a 21-year-old starter, while their top prospect in baseball played SS. Somehow, they always address the short term and long term. We teeter back and forth. The Yankees are now in the longest championship drought in their history. Do we really see this team winning it all? (Will there even be fans in the stands by October?) These deals could extend our drought for years.

3. We can't judge anything until today is done. Last night, Boston acquired Kyle Schwarber; (so much for gaining on them.) Last I looked, Trevor Story was still out there, a hostage waiting to be rescued. Meanwhile, Luke Voit looks like a goner. (I'm hoping the Yankees keep Luke, let him DH, and have Stanton play LF, for better or worse. I am waaaaaaaay beyond the point of worrying whether Giancarlo gets hurt. Think of the lineup, with Stanton in LF. Ah, but that's the 14-year-old in me.)

4. What didn't change yesterday - and won't today - are the standings. If you try to judge the trades as wins/losses, the Yankees have kept pace with Boston and Oakland (Starling Marte), and may have gained on Tampa, Seattle and Toronto. But by 4 p.m. EST, that will probably change. Both the Rays and Jays have plenty of talent to spare - that is, unless they're merely playing the long game. Who knows? But Armageddon is here. And on that note, Armageddon outahere.

The reason to play Stanton in the OF is the hope that he hurts himself.

That's not very Christian - but then, neither am I.

JM said...

Stanton might well extend the hope of Yankees management in Miami this weekend, putting on a good show in his old house.

Yeah, I don't think so, either. Bring on Gallo and Rizzo.

Again, we should just let Stanton go. Release him. Eat the money. Use the roster spot. Let some other team grab him and suffer like we have.

We may have traded away dogshit.

We may have lost a future core four.

We may have improved ourselves marginally - maybe not, also - and set ourselves up for a run at the one-game wildcard.

Because if you keep patching up that old piece of shit car, it may run, but it won't win any races.

We need a rebuild - not just a tank rebuild. We don't have the skills for that. We need a system-wide teardown, starting at the top.

Brian's ineptitude should be writ large on every back page. It's the emperor's new clothes syndrome. He's a walking baseball moron and the sum tally of his many big moves over the past 20 years is a mountain of nothing - guano - pig shit - stir-fry dung.

JM said...

But what do you really think, Bit?

" guano - pig shit - stir-fry dung."

I think I've eaten at that buffet. It's off Mott yes?

Cashy Bear. 21 years of excrement.
The only year he won, he went Bat-feces and spent like a sailor on shore leave. Kinda like the Dodgers are now.
He will not be allowed to do that again, so he might as well leave. PLEASE

Curry on Twitter saying the Yanks have been in talks to trade Voit, and could still do it to get rotation help.

Is Sonny Gray available?

if we can keep the fecal vibes going, it would match my mood for the yankees today.

I love you all.

Fuck everybody else.

and yes, it's off of Mott Street...

The sad thing is Cashman is pulling out all the stops for a best case scenario 2ND WILD CARD spot. Six prospects for a play in game

I love Luke Voit.

But I doubt we're going to get a decent pitcher for him. Or for Clint Frazier. Or Miguel Andujar.

The only people we can deal at the HEIGHT of their value are prospects, who are currently having good seasons. All our starting players - save Judge, Urshela and maybe Gary Sanchez - are in a depressed state of value. Nobody will give us much of anything.

On that note, I wonder how much we can expect from the final hours.

All these trades just for the HOPE of playing in ONE do-or-die game at Fenway Park or Tropicana Field, both places where Gerrit Cole has gotten CLOBBERED since the foreign substance crackdown. Bodes well.

Also, I was looking for a comp for Anthony Rizzo this year, someone with a similar batting line. Here's what I found.

Anthony Rizzo .248/.346/.446
Giancarlo Stanton .255/.352/.450

Good job, Z. Yeah, I was thinking Rizzo is a bit old and trending down. Maybe he has a couple of productive years left, maybe not. If the last two years with coronavirus can be thrown out, then maybe he could be that .300 hitter that we need. But then his splits against righty pitching ain't good.

All in all, it appears that we got two left handed versions of Stanton with these trades. Hopefully, they hit better in the clutch than our resident millstone.

But was it worth what we had to give up? And will I ever forgive Hal for being so cheap, so callous and so shortsighted?

JM said...

Our old buddy JA Happ was just traded to the Cards. This, right after his 3 inning outing where he gave up 10 hits and 9 runs.

Cole should stop looking to him as a role model.

JM said...

Bit, it will be years before we know for sure if it was worth it.

That's how trades are.

Heard that we traded Junk

The New York Yankees will acquire lefty starter Andrew Heaney from the Los Angeles Angels, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Jack Curry of the YES Network added New York would send minor leaguers Janson Junk and Elvis Peguero.

Luke Voit NOT traded.

All the best one's are off Mott.

So 10? prospects traded away

I know these trades take years to show if they are good or bad but what we got in return seems pretty underwhelming

Take "Rougy" Odor and multiply by three. That sums up the acquisition of Gallo and Rizzo. See you in hell.

I think that we have to carefully analyze the deals that we have made.
We must weight all of the 40 -Man and Rule 5 considerations.
Also, all but Gallo and Holmes are gone after this year. We did not trade our highest rated prospects.
We stayed under the salary cap.
we improved our changes of playing as a road team in the playoff games by at least 15%.
We exercised great love for the other franchises by letting them get the best players available.
Yes, any fair and rational analysis leads a long time fan to conclude;

FUCK HAL, FUCK CASHMAN
Step right up and get your Rizzo Yankee jerseys at a special introductory price of 129.95 at Fanatics.

Did I mention, FUCK HAL?

What number is Rizzo going to have?

Will he be the first three digit number with 444?

Ratso and Callo in the lineup tonight.

Off Mott Odor in, LeMajor out.

Judge in center.

Heaney....wtf we allergic to under 4 Eras

Call me cynical but they are finally playing Stanton in the outfield.

We know he will injure himself sooner rather than later. What if it's by design? He gets hurt. No more clogging up the DH. Gallo is right there to play OF Voit can be a DH. Judge can get days off. It's an elegant solution to a difficult problem.

Welcome to the new era. Joey Gallo strikes out in his first AB.

As I watched the first inning I saw the Marlins pitcher's pitch count climbing and I thought that was good, knock him out early. I quickly realized it doesn't matter at all because they can't hit shitty relievers either.

TheWinWarblist said...

Tallion leads of the inning with a walk, but that's okay we'll erase that with a DP right away.

TheWinWarblist said...

I thought Ranger was kidding, but we really had a Janson Junk.

Good, pulled it out.

But I still hate this fucker. If the first batter hadn't swung at a pitch over his head, he's in serious trouble.

All those trades, and we still don't have a closer.
