As one man's horrible and unnecessary war rages, the world seeks the Yankee fan solution

 Hey, it worked for Khadaffi.

Despite the hopelessness and nihilism I see in some of the comments here, I have to side with LBJ - Local Bargain Jerk - and come down on the side of beautiful, futile, symbolic hopeless protest. Rage against the machine.

Because...

As I discovered on a long trip years ago to the desert, when I realized that it was not New York City - my home - that I missed; it was NEW YORKERS.

SO IT IS HERE. Yes, I miss the old Yankees, they who won with greatness in all those teams that were NOT assembled by Brian Cashman, including the last dynasty. Yes, I miss the Yankees, but what I'd REALLY miss if I sat out the season would be my brethren Yankee fans. In other words - YOU FOLKS. You gentled, sometimes demented compatriots of mine. You, my tribe.

I don't mind wandering in the wilderness for however long it takes - and some of us may not see the other side of this mountain - but I'm okay if I can hang and kvetch and gripe and gossip with you along the way.

So let's make some big pointless stink. Let's have a kerfuffle. Let's complain like real New Yorkers. Let's make some noise, but let's DO IT.

I'm not going to just lay down and die, goddammnit.

I love you all.

Yes! It's time for us older folk to lead the way. To do a 1970 style metaphorical "March on Washington" as I'm sure a few of us did. (I'm looking at you El Duque). I'd wear my old bell-bottoms and tie-dyed "Nixon-Pull Out Like Your Old Man Should Have" tee shirt except they don't come close to fitting me anymore. But, I might just have a wearable gas mask somewhere.
