I guess Sonny Gray is back in hell now that he's forced to pitch to Sanchez. Maybe he will be lucky enough to have another " personal catcher" as he did in NY.

Getting rid of Gary is fine. I really liked the guy, followed him for all 14 years he was in the organization, but the time had arrived. But the catcher we got back: Ben Rortvedt? He hit .169/.229/.281 last year. Uhhh.... guess he's a good glove.

Losing Gio hurts. I know he struggled last year, but he was a fun guy to root for. Now we get the hated Josh Donaldson. And he's 36 and on the IL every year now.

I can't get over how unlikeable this team has become.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa is apparently a tremendous glove guy. But has a career .670 OPS.

May I remind you that the Yankees finished 19th in runs scored in 2021. Have we really improved the lineup in any way?

I'm not surprised by this trade, mainly because The Intern has no fucking clue.

Donaldson is just what we need: a 36yo right handed hitter with a huge contract who "could see some time at DH."

I miss the lockout.

We now need a catcher. The left side of the infield is way more secure,while thankfully we unloaded Sleepy Sanchez. This move also buys time for our lads in the minors to develop. Alternatively one could be part of a deal for Olson. Good trade.

LOL@ the left side of the infield is more secure. Donaldson no longer has mobility at third and is now a below average fielder. Plus the 51.5 million they paid for him is insane. This deal precludes any upgrade at first and now hamstrings the Yankees pocketbook even more. Now, they need an every day catcher as Higgy is not the answer. Volpe probably couldn't hit much worse than Felafel and is a plus infielder. This is a bad trade in every aspect except that they jettisoned Sanchez.

I'm with Carl J. Weitz. It's kind of a headscratcher. Except that we don't have Gary to kick around anymore. All right, but we take on a 36 yr old, with a bad arm, who is a statue at 3B now, whose bat will probably be on the decline also, and he makes a ton of money too. We seem to be moving in the wrong direction.

Not only do we need a catcher, but a 1B, CF, and a few starting pitchers.

Never a fan of the lazy Sanchez, but questions about Donaldson’s age and durability are totally legit. He was actually a productive bat last year, but seems removed from his glory days. I will miss Gio. Falafel ranked third by the Fielding Bible last year at SS, but has a below avg bat. He will be the short term option at SS. Don’t know much about the C, Rohrvedt, other than his woeful slash line last year, seems there will be another move coming at catcher. All in all, we didn’t move the needle much. My concern is more about the starting rotation.
