Letter to the Editor: Yogi was no Spur

San Antonio Express-News
December 7, 2011 Wednesday
Dear Editors,

Yogi Berra, one of baseball's greatest players and most renowned sports celebrities of all time, sometimes worked as a head waiter at a friend's restaurant during the off-season. He occasionally tended bar at a bowling alley as well. He did not make enough money to support his family with just his salary as a New York Yankee star early in his career.

Later, when he was earning more, he went back to that restaurant and coined his famous phrase, "Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded."

How times have changed! If the NBA lockout had continued, or the season had been canceled, I wonder if we'd have seen any of the Spurs working odd jobs around San Antonio?
