Yankeetorial: The Redsocks Owe Tim Wakefield Another Year, Maybe Two

We rarely offer advice to our beloved Northern bros of the AL East, but the great, heartwarming stories Xmas are that the two great, heartwarming American Rasputins - Newton Gingrich and Tim Wakefield - want to rise again and their country and team to another Miracle Season.

“I have a strong desire to pitch one more year for the Red Sox,” Wakefield said.

Yes, I know what you're thinking: Good God, Dukee, have you lost your mind? We can't let the Redsocks resign Wakefield! We have to get in there and sign him ourselves. He's only 45! And he's on the verge of a breakout year!

Well, yaysayers, I'm sorry...

I say nay. Nay nay nay. Eighteen years in Redsock tights DO mean something, and in 2012, it mean Tim Wakefield belongs with Bobby V and the country chicken kitchens. Yes, as much as we'd love to have him in Pinstripes, holding down the rotation after CC and chasing that elusive 201st victory - nay, nay, nay. He's part of Boston, like cream pie, Mitt Romney and Catholic priest coverups.

I'm thinking a two-year deal at $8 mill per, plus incentives, will do the trick. Make it happen, Bobby V. He's a genuine tie to the 2004 Miracle.

And don't forget Captain Varitek!
