With two covers on the final day, the Yankees win the First Half of 2017 Tabloids race

If this were an election, I would call it right now:

IT IS HIGH projects the Yankees as winners of the 2017 Tabloids Covers race.

The simple fact is that this over-achieving team is just now starting to capture the interest of New York City. With Aaron Judge and - fingers crossed - Clint Frazier in the outfield, the franchise will have two of the most attention-generating sports personalities in Gotham.

Judge is the soft-spoken slugger who will probably hit more than 40 HRs this season. Frazier is the eclectic youngster who is - fingers crossed - coming of age. Between the two, the Yankees should dominate the second half of the season, at least in back covers of the Post and Daily News.

This does not necessarily mean the Yankees will win. If we've learned anything this season by counting back covers, it is that the tabs generally devote their back pages to condemning or mocking bad play. Presumably, this would change if the Yanks or Mets make a pennant run. Clearly, none of us know what's ahead, but the Yankee malaise has gone for four long and boring years. Whatever happens, the doldrums are over. This team is interesting again, and I believe that will manifest itself on a tall stack of back pages.

EL DUQUE..... PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE WORK AND STRIFE OF POSTING THE COVERS RACE.
DAILY NEWS HATES THE YANKEES, PLAIN AND SIMPLE....... 75% OF THE YANKEE COVERS, MOST OF THE TIME, ARE NEGATIVE, AND OR RIDICULING, OUR TEAM. (SOUND FAMILIAR)?....ONLY IN THE OTHER CASE I'M REFERRING TO, IT'S 100%, WITHOUT FAIL.

THE POST HATES US TOO, BUT NOT TO THE DEGREE OF THE DAILY NEWS....

BOTH PAPERS ADORE THE METS OVER US.

IF THE METS WERE PLAYING A LOUSY .500 BALL, THEY WOULD BLOW US AWAY IN COVERS, BELIEVE ME..... BUT THEY REALLY CAN'T LEGITIMIZE GIVING PRESS TO A TEAM THAT'S 5 GAMES UNDER .500 RIGHT NOW......

IF THEY GET TO .500 BALL..... WATCH.

BETTER YET, DON'T WATCH..... YOUR TIME IS WORTH MORE!

Just be glad you still have newspapers. Here in Texas, our rags have half as many pages as they did a few years back, and many have fired all the good writers and replaced them with cheap just-graduated reporters.

Tex, Both those papers have down-sized considerably in the past few years, as well, staff-wise. I don't live anywhere near New York, but I read articles concerning the lay-offs...It's happening almost everywhere - - the Chicago Trib is only a hollow shell of its former self; the Ann Arbor News ceased to be a good paper about 15 years ago - - it's worthless now, except for the coupons. The only papers which are hanging in there - - perhaps even thriving somewhat, now, are the NY Times the WS Journal, and the Washington Post...Sad to contemplate, but at least we have those. McClatchy and USA Today still manage some good work, but they're hardly in the league of the ones above-listed.

Daily News might hate the Yanks, but I don't hate them, All-Caps; Post mostly does hate the Yanks, and I return the sentiment toward them. LB (No J)
