1. Why is Clint Frazier benched for a second day in a row? Could a trade be in the works?
2. Brett Gardner is starting in center again tonight; he is getting WAY too much playing time. He was supposed to be a fourth outfielder, and now he seems to be the primary starting centerfielder. With a significant sample size encomopassing both this year and last, it's apparent that he is not a qualified MLB player anymore--he's a sub-.200 hitter with a lousy arm. All he can do is run. It doesn't matter that he adds a lefty bat to the lineup--he can't he any kind of pitching, right or left. Most teams would not have signed him, or having signed him would have released him by now. But to make him your starting centerfielder is simply perverse--glaringly dumb and incompetent. But what's new? There are far more sensible alternatives: bringing up Florial or giving Frazier a trial in center. But of course the Yankees do the dumbest and most counterproductive thing possible. By the way--when you behold Cashman's tiny pear-shaped head and dead eyes atop his tree-stump neck, the affectless drone when he speaks, doesn't it appear that he has Down's syndrome? Perhaps that accounts for his staggering ineptitude. Let's have a day for him and then install a competent, compos mentis general manager.
Anon please don't insult the mentally disabled by comparing them to Brain. Cashman is doing this intentionally to further line the pockets of the billionaire Ownership, not because of a reason outside of his control. If Jeter was in the current organization now as a newly drafted minor leaguer, Cash would leave him in the minors until his mid-20s to make sure his service clock didn't start "too soon."
It's embarrassment what they're doing to Gardner. He should have been seen off last year with honor. And offered a position with the organization. Not this torment.
Rufus, pursuant to your mewling last night regarding upstate NY, your desire to feel special about the different bits of tree infested NY is ridiculous. upstate [intentionally lower case] starts one block north of Yankee Stadium. The old Yankee Stadium, not this thing. I'm sorry you think we should be able to tell you all apart. I'm sure sheep think that too. I cannot tell sheep apart nor do I care to. We cannot tell you apart either. It's fucking all trees and cows. Trees and cows. Probably sheep and chickens too, but who cares. I live in upstate now and it's all just trees and cows and inbred mongers. I'd much rather be sweltering on the subway or stuck in traffic on the L.I.E.
In honor of Cole pitching tonight, I suggest you give a listen to "Stuff" by The Baseball Project. It's the second-best song about doctoring the baseball, only behind Doug K's "Spider Tack" in the previous post.
I have no desire to feel special. After all, that bus is too crowded.
I do not hail from Gotham, or even the Empire State. Merely pointing out the fact that a very large tract of real estate is grouped unnecessarily. Think of the 'Chinese' language or the "Indian" language -- of which there are hundreds.
And, despite being a country bumpkin, I am still a fan of NYC and the house that HAL befouled.
Reporting in from the netherlands (not those ones, the small 'n' netherlands).
Well, good to see the boys who fear no noise playing well today.
I have to say, though, that I can understand why pitchers like Cole turn to Spider Pig when I watch things like Miguel Sano's last at-bat. He gets down 0-2, gets completely beat on a pitch, takes a weak, off-balance swing to lift a ball to the opposite field...and it goes out.
He then runs the bases crossing himself and glancing skyward.
GOD HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, YOU FAT, FRAUDULENT FUCK! It's all that juice you stick into brain and body, and that right now is probably shortening your lifespan by several decades.
And if I'd had the chance to make the $22.4 mill and counting you have so far by cheating and risking your future bodily health...I'd probably have done the exact same thing.
I must be nuts staying up this late to watch this game But yet I do it and following the game thread on here is the best part thanks for all your rants and informative and some downright silly posts they have given me a lot of entertainment
Most the good posters on here have the Yankees in their DNA and can't help themselves.
I have no excuse I should know better But I'm glad I don't
Guid nicht to you all in the USA I'm awa tae my scratcher
There are a lot of trees upstate. I grew up there and can vouch for that. And cows. And apple orchards. And meat headed assholes. I ran away decades ago to Manhattan.
However, the Hudson valley is very pretty. So there's that.
Sad to see that play by Gardy, on what has otherwise been a good night for him. Sure, that ball was hit a ton. But he had plenty of time and clearly just misjudged it, then toppled to the ground like a baby bird.
It was just announced that the Yanks are 105-37 against Minnesota since 2002. Not sure if that includes the playoffs or not. But it ain't chopped liver.
Wow, are we actually going to see Chapman in this game?
So, you're Brooks Kriske, you're 27 and you're career is hanging by a thread. You're warming up to do a little mop up in a 9-2 game, and you notice that you're a little too strong. Your every pitch is rising into the heart of the strike zone.
What can you possibly do about that? Maybe...try to throw some more pitches, quick, so you can get in the right range?
Nah! Just go out there and throw any old shit until the closer has to warm up.
FWIW, the frothing Andujar worshiping dirty dozen are wetting themselves now that he's on a little roll (I really hope that it continues, I Never root against a Yankee). He has eight RBIs. Stanton drove in five tonight. For all his faults and injuries, he is amazing when it clicks.
I'm having a hard time -- just now catching up with y'all -- figuring out why beating the Twins is worth anything. Two in a row? Great. Isn't this what the NYYs should have done to the Tigers?
I'm happy for Miggy. That's it.
On upstate NY: I went to college there, Binghamton. Got a job on the local paper before I graduated, ended up as a sportswriter. I sucked. I looked around. There were people with a lot more talent who couldn't get the heck out of Bingo. So I punted.
This was after spending 7 years total in Binghamton.
Incidentally, Binghamton is in the Southern Tier, right there in the middle.
Major downer was the weather. It rained there lots, and when it didn't rain (or snow), it was foggy, cloudy, and miserable. Lots of times the roads iced over, which made my drive home (morning newspaper, means I worked 'til at least 1230am) really, really exciting.
The one smell I recall from college is that of drowned dead worms -- they were everywhere. The one great thing was the fall colors -- all that moisture apparently led the trees to go crazy (for about 2 weeks). It was beautiful.
One year -- when I spent the full year working there -- I marked the sunny days off on a calendar. B4 I pitched the thing, I counted.
There were 10 sunny days. Yes, out of 365. If this reminds you of Brian Cashman's batting average . . .

This is going to be another painful evening.

Judgian blast. All rise. Don't get your hopes up people: These Yankees suck.
It appears the Pizza Pit has a night off and mommy's not home.
And Gardner sucks.
Now it's Stantion blast. Doesn't matter. They could beat a high school team too. So what.
These Yankees suck.
It's embarrassment what they're doing to Gardner. He should have been seen off last year with honor. And offered a position with the organization. Not this torment.
Such fuckers.
Another Stantonian blast…
Is there a game tonight?
The WNBA is really exciting and I lost track.
They still suck.

So ppffftt!
It is pretty funny that New York extends almost to Ohio in the west and to Canada in the north...and we city snobs refer to it all as "upstate."
Just where is the "Southern tier"? I can't say. And I don't really care.
That said, if anyone wants me to take care of their "upstate" home for the summer, I'm your man, Peggy Sue.

And just for the record, fuck you HAL!

BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT RIGHT!
Rufus, you know I luv you, right? Not as much as bitty. Or Hoss. Or Duque. But lots. Really!
It's so fucking tree infested up here.
I love all you disturbed people; don't make me chose which of you children are my favorite.
It's bitty. Always bitty.
Winnie, all the appreciation is on this side of the table, as the two Bob's said.
It's still nice to be the fourth best (at best) compadre.
And trees are better than deserts. I can personally verify that.
Now back to surfing between the exciting WNBA contests.
"Disturbed" is an understatement.
In a good way.
David Cone, on Cole being taken out after six, says it's good move and the Yankees should "look for chances to protect Gerrit Cole."
You really want to protect Cole?
Don't let him do interviews.
On Cessa: you know you're a great relief pitcher when you're literally ducking from line drives.
I half-expected his spikes, socks, glove, jersey, and cap to come off, a la Charlie Brown.
3.35am in Bonnie Scotland
4 hours till I start work
I must be nuts staying up this late to watch this game

Can Officer Kriske hold a seven run lead?
Good to have you with us, as always, Scotland!
Sad to see that play by Gardy, on what has otherwise been a good night for him. Sure, that ball was hit a ton. But he had plenty of time and clearly just misjudged it, then toppled to the ground like a baby bird.
The Hudson Valley is haunted, JM. You can hear the pins falling.
The loveliest natural place in these United States, I think.

Hey, doesn't matter—except for Kriske.
Officer Kriske is an innings eater who can't eat innings.
Anon, please choose a handle and get with the culture, okay? Cause really, right now, you're a total dink.
Gardner is the reincarnated Tris Speaker! The Orioles are the '27 Yankees!
Well, THAT was pretty interesting.
