This is it, the night of nights

They haven't said so explicitly, but it's pretty clear to me that Gary is now a part-time catcher with this team and will be so in October (if they make it that far).

Looks like the postseason alignment would be:

Cole - Higashioka
Montgomery - Sanchez
Kluber - Higashioka
Cortes - Sanchez

Great stuff!

But I think a better song would be:

"A few more hours
That's all the time we've got
Just a few more hours
Before we're really shot."

JERRY: (Singing) Camera, curtains, lights - This is it, we'll hit the
heights - Oh what heights we'll hit - On with the show this is it!

ELAINE: You know, it is so sad, all your knowledge of high culture comes
from bugs bunny cartoons.

It's bluejay season!
It's DEVIL ray season!

oooooh, you wascally wabbit!

I'll be getting some "culcha" at a dance performance tonight with my sis.

Please excoriate Boone for me when he inevitably does something stupid.

Great clip! I love that song.

If tonight's game becomes too painful there's always this...

Baseball Bugs

or if you prefer...

Popeye

and if it gets really bad...

Oh, and for the record... there is no way we win this game.

Remember, all: nothing is important.

TheWinWarblist said...

Strikeout. Getting off to a classic these are "Our 2021 Suckees" start.

TheWinWarblist said...

Oh. Oh wait. That's right. Judge can still hit.

TheWinWarblist said...

Suzyn is the best: "Isn't it good to see another team hit into a double play?"

Platoni said...

It feels like every time I fire up the ol' Gameday, Kluber has allowed another run

Pocono Steve said...

I just don't see a 1-2-3 inning left in him today.

Carl J. Weitz said...

How did Kluber ever toss a no-hitter this year?
Kluber now looks more like Gruber from McHale's Navy.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Carl,

Gruber actually got things done.

Pocono Steve said...

Stanton's hitting .000 for the rest of the season, isn't he?

Rufus T. Firefly said...

The Yankees are hitting .000 today except for the Judge homer.

I wish I sensed that changing.

TheWinWarblist said...

One loud hit is not going to get it done tonight.

TheWinWarblist said...

That's the game. Probably the season too. We will not score again this week.

TheWinWarblist said...

ALL RIIISSE!!

TheWinWarblist said...

What's happening? What is this? What is going on!?

Pocono Steve said...

Fuck you, Ray, you short-sleeved, glute-flex-for-the-centerfield-camera asshole.

Pocono Steve said...

You look like Barry Gibb's lost grandson.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

He's been taking the Dominican milkshakes. "Bulked up" in the offseason.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

mlb tv feed is stuck in the stupid fucking ad for themselves loop.

I hate those fucking bastards.

Pocono Steve said...

Unlike Joe West, I'm not sure this yoyo ump is retiring this year.

TheWinWarblist said...

I used to love Sid Fernandez' centerfield camera glute flex. Even Met fans called him Baby Huey.

BernBabyBern said...

I'm surprised that Higgy wasn't rung up on that 1-2 pitch that bounced in front of the plate.

TheWinWarblist said...

I mean c'mon! Baby had back!

ranger_lp said...

Ray looked…well…sort of ordinary…

ranger_lp said...

Maybe Ray can win the Sigh Young award...

TheWinWarblist said...

Boston just lost to Baltimore. Ha!

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Judge sucks.

He can only hit a home run every other at bat.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

I hope for the carmines to lose every single game until the day I die, then for another hundred years.

TheWinWarblist said...

That idiot and his gagle of other idiots are gonna put Green in, aren't they?

TheWinWarblist said...

Rufus, I'll drink to that sentiment.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

You're going to need to drink with Green in there.

Cheers!

Pocono Steve said...

We need good Green, not the bad one.

BernBabyBern said...

Michael Kay just made a Joe Shlabotnik reference!

I imagine all the fans watching who are under 50 immediately started Googling who that was.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

I'm fantasizing about a three team tie for the second wild card.

A guy can dream, can't he?

Anonymous said...

Why is Chad Green in?

DickAllen said...

Boston sucks - they have a losing record since July 1 - Fuck them and their piss yellow frock coats

Anonymous said...

Sevi looked good. King looked good.

Why is he in?

Doug K.

Carl J. Weitz said...

Boone should have let Sevy pitch another inning.

HoraceClarke67 said...

I remember Joe Shlabotnik. Also Moonbeam McSwine.

HoraceClarke67 said...

I agree with the Sevvy move. You don't want to work him too hard, considering the history.

But Green...

Pocono Steve said...

He's not going to strike him out, is he?

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Boone should have committed ritual Hari-Kari a couple of years ago.

HoraceClarke67 said...

He has to get Dickerson here. This is the season in a batter.

HoraceClarke67 said...

All right.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

We still have to endure El Chapo in the ninth.

Unless the Yankees score 5 the next half inning.

HoraceClarke67 said...

They keep going on about how good Green looks. I don't like it.

HoraceClarke67 said...

Higgy!

HoraceClarke67 said...

And yet, the true test awaits: Trial by Sweat.

HoraceClarke67 said...

"Sanchez, afforded a miraculous second chance...struck out."

Sigh.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Three more and we might not see El Chapo.

Kevin said...

Old Useless Man hits one out! How do ya like.....that?

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Tequila for everyone!

HoraceClarke67 said...

8-9-1. That's all he has to do. 8-9-1, to protect a 4-run lead. And he walks the first hitter.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

They need two runners on for that patented game ending triple play.

Anonymous said...

Here we go. Gut punch city.

Doug K.

HoraceClarke67 said...

Okay, struck out Breyvic Valera. Fine.

Anonymous said...

what's with chapman and all the off-speed stuff? nervous I am Kevin

HoraceClarke67 said...

Throwing 88-mph splitters. Terrific.

HoraceClarke67 said...

And all over the plate.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Higgy just caught two ICS passed balls.

HoraceClarke67 said...

He really cannot throw 100 anymore.

HoraceClarke67 said...

"The most agonizing 20 minutes in sports"—watching this guy try to close a game.

Anonymous said...

I really don't like Chapman.

Doug K.

HoraceClarke67 said...

Oh, hurrah: it was Chapo's 1,000th strike out. He can put the baseball on the mantle next to his 1,000th expended shell.

Anonymous said...

"The most agonizing 20 minutes in sports"—watching this guy try to close a game."

This!

Doug K.

HoraceClarke67 said...

The whole Yankee infield on the mound, whispering to Aroldis behind their gloves: "Stop being an asshole."

HoraceClarke67 said...

Throwing an 87-mph splitter to Semien, outside the strike zone. You think he's going to bite on that?

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Thankfully the BJs are swinging at balls way out of the zone.

HoraceClarke67 said...

3-2. I'm too old for this.

HoraceClarke67 said...

That weird sort of cutter he seems to have is fooling them. For now.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Chapo isn't sweating buckets. Is there something wrong with him?

HoraceClarke67 said...

Phew!!!!

TheWinWarblist said...

Flopsweat is exhausting.

Anonymous said...

cool. I'll take it.

Doug K.

Pocono Steve said...

FUCK YES MOTHERFUCKER!! But, also, it's the hope that kills you.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

If it wasn't for Gardner still around since 2009, the only Yankees with World Series wins would be the fucking ex-cubs. That is pathetic.

TheWinWarblist said...

I will leave you all with this. The Giants have 104 wins and the Dodgers have 102 wins.

Our 2021 Suckees do not have 100 wins, nowhere close.

Pocono Steve said...

True, Winnie, but one of them will have to play the Bud Selig game, and wouldn't it be funny and just if they were to lose?

JM said...

The Giants and Dodgers play most of their games against the schmucks in their division. The good teams there are the Giants and the Dodgers.

The Yankees have Tampa, Toronto and Boston to deal with. Makes a difference.

They look better than us, granted. But the win count is a little misleading.

DickAllen said...

A Giants Dodgers series would be super to watch.

HoraceClarke67 said...

Nah. I want the Dodgers to lose that play-in game. You let them into a longer series, and it's hard to see anyone beating their pitching.

JM said...

Forgot San Diego. Ok, it's not a pushover division. Sorry.
