Wow, you are only 47? I have Herpes sores that old.
If I remember correctly, I got drunk on your birthday. Then again, I got drunk most June evenings in 1974. I t was a college-age thing in the '70s.

From the way you write, I thought that you are much older!!
That impacted anal cavity that you've had to deal with must have really aged you.

But, seriously, Happy Birthday.
this site gives me joy every day and there is nothing bad about that.

Happy Birthday El Duque!!! Or is that the 47th Anniversary of your 21st birthday?

HoraceClarke66 said...

"Esteemed leader"? WTF?

It's PEERLESS LEADER, the mantle a young El Duque took over from former Yankees manager Frank Chance, on Chance's retirement back in...well, never mind.

Suffice it to say, he IS peerless! Happy birthday, Duque, and many happy returns on the day!

Platoni said...

47? That's my age. That means I am a peer of the Peerless Leader. Which is blowing my mind, much like the Yankees' inability to score with RISP.

Happy Birthday, man. May you reach a 100! (as we say in Albania).

Carl J. Weitz said...

Happy Birthday El Duque! I hope you celebrate with a good amount of potent potables!
But 47?? Hmmm. LOL

Nice start, Yanks. Assholes

A rally.

Three walks.

Anonymous said...

Anyone for a no-no?

Platoni said...

Our old friend GIDP is here

Anonymous said...

Oh hell--I jinxed it.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

A two out hit? With runners in scoring position?

Who'da thunk it?

Platoni said...

A hit with RISP, and two outs, and with run(s) scoring. this is the turnaround we needed, boys. And it only took a few dozen fails.

You all doubted this was even possible, but who's laughing now that the season is saved

JM said...

47...sure that's not the year of birth?

Happy birthday. Was Boris and Natasha's boss named Fearless Leader or Peerless Leader? I though it was Fearless, but memory is a tricky thing at my age.

King really sucked in the 5th. What the hell happened? I remember the guy who pitched masterfully for 7 against some other tomato can.

So now, Chad. A very good pitcher who's had some really rocky outings. Well, he got the out after King loaded the bases a la King.

Has Clint now received a temporary stay of duque's demotion order to SWB?

JM said...

Duque's hit on Frazier might take a while. The hired man had a couple of other jobs lined up for other teams. Did a great job on Hicks, though, I have to say.

JM said...

Duque, do journalists get pensions?

When you stop laughing, let me know. Thanks.

JM said...

Judge has refound his swing at low and outside pitches.

JM said...

More shitty umping.

JM said...

Afternoon game tomorrow, which means I can watch it starting 10 a.m.

Sometimes I love Pacific time.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

JM, try Hawaii. It's even better. The super bowl comes on at noon. Spring training games for breakfast.

JM said...

That sounds great. And I hear the pineapple is fresh.

Stanton, like Judge, has refound his swing at low and outside pitches.

JM said...

We have 9 walks and 3 hits and 2 runs.

Jesus fried chicken.

ranger_lp said...

Yanks squandering opportunities...

JM said...

Voit fans.

Pocono Steve said...

Had four outs to work with that inning too given Stanton's "walk."

JM said...

Britton serving meatballs for dinner today.

JM said...

GIDP. How many is that now? 912?

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Hello old GIDP.

Ive come to see you again.

Pocono Steve said...

Don't worry. Odor will save us. Heh.

ranger_lp said...

Odor doesn't stink...

Rufus T. Firefly said...

11 walks and 2 runs. Must be some sort of record.

Pocono Steve said...

Lolz. That, I did not expect.

JM said...

Roughneck Bad Odor puts us ahead.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

A two out hit? AGAIN?!?!?!

What next, cat's sleeping with dogs?

JM said...

I still don't like him, but I'll take his home run.

ranger_lp said...

Rolaids is warming up...

Rufus T. Firefly said...

All that stands between the Yankees and a win, is flop-sweat firehose.

I'm nervous.

JM said...

What's with the terrible racist Atlanta Braves chant at Yankee Stadium?

ranger_lp said...

@JM...Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes. It's played everywhere...

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Jane Fonda must be in the stands.

JM said...

Sorry, I should've said the shitty racist Atlanta Braves chant. My bad.

JM said...

I saw her at our pre-pandemic hangout. She is incredibly tiny.

ranger_lp said...

No prob...it's not that either...

JM said...

What is it?

ranger_lp said...

Not shitty or terrible...not racist...

JM said...

Ah. But it is the Braves chant, no? What's it doing in the Bronx?

Rufus T. Firefly said...

The ump jumped out of the way.

ranger_lp said...

@JM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_QLxj8jCF0

It's a great song...however YMMV

ranger_lp said...

It's not a Braves chant...

ranger_lp said...

And it's not the chop which is racist.

JM said...

I get it. Yeah, the Stripes. Didn't know that, thanks for the edumacation.

ranger_lp said...

And it's chanted in every stadium and arena for the last few years running...

ranger_lp said...

YW

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Runner is in Chapo's head.

JM said...

It's hard getting old, Ranger. What can I say?

It reminds me of a background vocal refrain from Bowie's "Africa Night Flight." Circa 1980, so you see where I'm coming from.

ranger_lp said...

@JM...lol wow that sounds like that...if Bowie were alive I'd consider suing...

JM said...

On that strikeout pitch...made me think of the T Rex LP "The Slider."

God, I'm old.

JM said...

Bases loaded and a rookie without a big league hit up.

What could happen?

BernBabyBern said...

He's pitching like he's scared of a kid who never got a hit.

BernBabyBern said...

You gotta be kidding me.

JM said...

Looks like he'll walk in the tying run. Then probably giving up the winning hit after that.

He's so predictable.

ranger_lp said...

Chapman has got to go...I'm going to take some Rolaids now after this...

Rufus T. Firefly said...

The song I'm thinking of right now is Crazy Train.

JM said...

I'd rather have Kyra Sedgewick as the closer.

ranger_lp said...

What a fucking disaster...

JM said...

And, a hit. Of course.

And you can't take him out, because...well, because.

DickAllen said...

Me too

HoraceClarke66 said...

That is the single worst clutch moment I have ever seen in professional sports. If they released Aroldis Chapman tomorrow morning I would have absolutely no problem with it. They will never win anything with this bum.

DickAllen said...

Jesus Christmas. The Royals?

Next thing you know this championship caliber team will get swept by the Tigers.

JM said...

Ooooh, Chapman is angry. Great. If only he was effective.

I think "blown save" is a nice way of saying he blows.

DickAllen said...

Imagine giving El Duque this sorry excuse for a birthday present

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Dick, too late.

Anonymous said...

Chapman's only getting angry about his bullshit NOW?

JM said...

Remember Mariano? Good times.

Leinstery said...

What happened to Chapman? Certainly his arm isn't cooked after pitching everyday for three months.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

I'd settle for David Robertson right now.

DickAllen said...

Story of my life Rufus.

JM said...

Judge earns the Golden Sombrero.

I think it's fair to say he's in a slump.

Leinstery, Mariano would still have closed it out. He pitched a lot of games.

JM said...

You know you're having a bad night when your clutch guys are Clint and Odor.

DickAllen said...

OMG.

Now we will lose it in the tenth

Rufus T. Firefly said...

OK, I take back *ONE* bad thing I said about ICS.

JM said...

Sanchez!!!!

JM said...

The guy is on fire.

DickAllen said...

And there have been so many to choose from Rufus

Rufus T. Firefly said...

I see another GIDP in my future.

JM said...

Royals bail us out from that. Wade goes to second.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

OK, just not this inning.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Voit gives Duque a Birthday present!

Pocono Steve said...

Well, then!

JM said...

Holy shit.

JM said...

Our usual punching bags punch back.

JM said...

OK, now I can go to dinner and drink even more.

BernBabyBern said...

Happy birthday, Duque ....

ranger_lp said...

Who would have thunk this?

Now that was a big win...

Ken of Brooklyn said...

YES> WOWOWOWOOWWOW!!!
Happy Birthday Duque!!!!!!!!!!!!

BernBabyBern said...

Winning pitcher, Aroldis Chapman.

Most meaningless stat in baseball by far -- wins for relief pitchers.

DickAllen said...

Well shut my mouth

HoraceClarke66 said...

Good for Sanchez and Voit picking us up. But I'm serious. I don't want to see that bum Chapman in pinstripes again,

Pocono Steve said...

Agreed, HC66. I don't blame him for the seeing-eye grounder or the lucky blooper, but the total head case mound shitting after that--GTFO.

Kevin said...

Happy Birthday to The Duque!

HoraceClarke66 said...

Really—you said it, Pocono Steve.

Everyone—even The Great One—coughs one up from time to time. A ball drops in, or you just don't have it, and that's that.

But to not get the ball over the plate in four tries? To a guy who has never had a big-league hit?

Nononononononononononono.

This chump has ended our last two seasons, and he's never come up big in a big game. And now this. Enough. Deal him for what you can get, and move on.

Anonymous said...

Hooray, but . . . having to scramble to eke out win against a team like the Royals is a good news/bad news sort of thing.

Anonymous said...

Did everyone see the YES posting of the contrast between the numbers between Chapman's first dozen or so games and his last dozen or so games? Pretty ominous. For the past two weeks he's been a very bad pitcher indeed.

Anonymous said...

Chapman's ERA for June is 6.14.

Kevin said...

Yes, well it's well known that athletes perform like atomic clocks, and any deviation is predictive of imminent disaster.

Anonymous said...

Chapman's slide has been precipitous FOR A MONTH, so you apologia for this aging disaster is irrelevant, like most of your posts.

Anonymous said...

Happy Belated Birthday, El Duque! You're only 47? Holy crap, I thought you were at least 70 or 75. As Platoni noted above, we're peers of our Peerless Leader! Who'd have thunk it?
