An Experiment

Trolls. They bore us! And we don't come to this site to be bored. No, we come to read the same complaints about Brian Cashman every day. Because that is thrilling. When you get up in years, nothing beats being agreed with.

So! I just found out you can set Blogger to accept comments only from people with Google accounts (Google owns Blogger). I was hoping for the ability to limit entry to people who registered their nicknames with Blogger, but no such luck.

Anyway, I've set the comments to require the Google account. We'll try it today. If it works, I'll require vaccinations next. And after that, you'll have to pay a tax. It's a slippery slope!

But I don't expect this to work. I'm sure many of our fine, upstanding commenters are unregistered with Google. Or maybe no one is! What do I know? Like I said, we'll try this today. And if you're one of the good ones and entry is barred to you, write to johnandsuzyn@gmail.com, and we'll end this mad experiment.

So Tack King Cole says he likes excellence. Methinks he likes money more than he likes excellence. He's kind of like Hal that way.

Is this like the electric kool-aid acid test? I mean, we're mostly the sons of arthritis and not the hell's angels -- but otherwise pretty much the same.

Is there any way to block Mrs. Teasdale? She's been stalking me lately and I found out her money is in a trust, so she's pretty unattractive all around.

On quite another subject, I thought you might find this little tidbit in todays Daily Murdoch from Phil Mushnik It’s worth repeating something we’ve known all along:

“ Not that Aaron Boone any longer owed us an explanation or further proof of his fantasy-based managerial philosophy — he has made that abundantly clear since 2018, when he first removed an effective reliever for one hopefully as effective — but Tuesday night in Boston, he provided a show and tell.

In the top of the fourth inning of the AL wild-card game, after he had removed starter Garrett Cole in the bottom of the third following a wobbly session, he explained it, from the Yankees’ dugout, to ESPN:

“We’re set up, back there.”

By now we know what he meant: Boone had all his relief pitchers lined up in a row — bullpen as tarmac — ready to enter, as per Boone’s pregame scripted schedule, regardless of outcome or common sense.

Boone, again, was going to manage by wish, hope and a recipe torn from the Betty Crocker Cookbook of Needless Kitchen Disasters & Other Regrets.

Clay Holmes, Boone’s best reliever the second half of the season, again was removed too early, as if Boone were saving him for a big game. He’d thrown just 16 pitches, allowing one hit and no walks over two innings.

Big news, isn’t it?

If ex-Chancellor Kurtz is corrupt as they say, he'll fit right in, Bosch. Maybe he can line up funding for a new Yankee Stadium; this one's starting to feel too familiar.

I think this is a fine solution. Kudos to Mustang for doing the research.

The only fly in the ointment is that I believe Dr. Odu posts from a registered Google account...not that he's a troll and his messages aren't inspiring.

Should be: "...and that his messages aren't inspiring."

Mustang, since you're on a roll, is it possible for you to research to see if we can get an edit button? ;-)

Hmmm… I’ve been lurking around here since No Maas but the dust but couldn’t get the comments to post till I linked to my google account last year 🤔 It all makes sense now… well, all except Hal’s love affair with Cashman

Exactly right. Several times in August and September, they - the advance algorithms - had Boone remove an underused pitcher who was getting everybody out and making them look weak and foolish in favor of some meatball slinger who was "slotted" for that particular inning. This started with Joe Torre and it's gotten worse under Joey Binders and now Boone. If the computers are calling the shots, the manager has no feel for the game.

Phil Mushnick is a hateful assault, but he got this right.

Parson Tom said...

Assault is not what I meant to type. See what happens when the algorithms take control.

Stang said...

Mushnick is kind of an assault, though.

I watched a video of Jeter's highlights today and it pained me how far we had fallen in the past 20 years. Just plain sad.

The comment fix is good, though. All for it.

It's the biggest improvement in the Yankiverse for a long time.
