If the Yankees love Mom, they'll help her sweep the kitchen today

Long, long ago, and far, far away... my mom got a great kick out of the idea that someone was named "Thurman Munson." It just tickled her. When he died that day, she called to grieve. Strangely, every Mothers Day, I also think of Thurman and smile. It's weird, eh, how little things turn into lifelong memories...

Sometimes, people ask me to describe the readers of this blog. I tell them you are mouthy, volcanic, indignant, self-immolating, melodramatic, verbally bombastic, diehard nut-jobs, whose overreaction to every Yankee outcome is a source of personal pride. In a good way.

Well, today, we remain tied for the best record in baseball.
We have two players - Mantle and Maris - tied for the lead in HRs

Despite having no pitcher in the top 20 in ERA, Ks and Wins, we have the second best ERA in the game.

So, let's know enough about life to appreciate when things are going well. (Because they don't always.) Let's remember our mom's favorite Yankees. And if you're lucky enough to still have the chance - give her a call. And today, let's sweep the kitchen.

PLEASE let Boone dress-up as a mid-50's housewife today, complete with a vintage style yankees head scarf, over ripe, thick face makeup and long pinstripe nail daggers. He must manage the game in high heels and a well pressed shirt waisted house dress. This is my hope, my prayer, my dream for this Mother's Day, 2022. BRING ON MOTHER BOONE!

Beautifully written, Duque!

My mother has been gone 12 years now. She was never much of a baseball fan, but she first taught me the rules of the game, thinking that was something I needed to know.

She always referred to the base coaches as "cheater men," and she insisted that Rico Petrocelli's last name should be pronounced, "Petro-chelli"—which of course it should have been, what do they know up in Boston?

I will miss her always.

Great heartfelt post.

My Mom is turning 95 this year and the Yankees are part of how she passes the time while waiting to join that Yankee Fan in the SKY A.K.A. my Dad.

She loved Brett Gardner and was sad to see him go. That makes one of us. She can't watch Joey Gallo, "He twitches too much. I couldn't stand to be in a room with him." That makes two of us.

I recently discovered that there is a lot of Professional Bowling on cable and she splits her sports passion between that, the Yankees, and the tennis majors. She was a very good bowler back in the day. She could drink a scotch and soda, suck on a Parliament, and still bowl in the 180s

Last thing on her and bowling.

You know how, when you watch basketball you can tell whether the ball is going is in or out the moment the player takes the shot? So we were watching, I don't know, the greater Akron Open and the guy lets the ball go and she says, "Nope. Seven-Ten" and it was. I asked her how she knew and she said, "Released it too high."
