It's early yet. Right? RIGHT??

With the early collapse of our pitching staff, we can hope that this turns around when the weather warms up a bit.

But you know, and I know, what's going to happen. Cashman is going to sell the farm and get a starting pitcher who will never perform up to expectations. And our 8th and 9th innings--should we ever get to them with the lead--will still be in the hands of two monumental head cases.

On the other hand, all we have to do is score 10 runs every game and we run the table. Then get killed in the playoffs.

The Mets, mercifully, will probably implode and take care of themselves.

what on earth made fans think we actually have an adequate pitching staff? That Yankee Kool-Aid... powerful stuff for the gullible.

Here's what I'm saying to myself this morning:

    - There's no way the Red Sox play .833 ball the entire season. They'll come back to earth. But then again...

    - We ARE 7 games back in the all important loss column. But then again...

    - I'm pretty sure we won't play .462 ball the entire season. But then again...

    - I was also pretty sure there was no friggin' way Donald Trump would get elected.

So what do I know?

Apparently, nothing.

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE METS COMING BACK TO EARTH....

EVERY TEAM THEY HAVE PLAYED HAS LOOKED HORRIBLE, FROM ST.LOUIS, TO WASHINGTON.

THEIR ENTIRE DIVISION IS DOG SHIT.

.....I KNOW IT'S EARLY, BUT ARE THERE ANY GOOD TEAMS IN THE N.L. THIS YEAR?

HAVEN'T SEEN ONE YET, AND WE ALREADY KNOW THE ONES THAT ARE ALWAYS ATROCIOUS.

THIS TEAMED WITH US LOOKING LIKE DOG SHIT, AND LET ME TELL YOU, SO FAR THIS SEASON STINKS LIKE CAT PISS.

Sigh. It comes down to the eternal problem, as is noted here: pitching.

KD, I did indeed drink the Kool-Aid. I got so carried away by our marvelous new farm system that I figured, hey, if any of the starters go down, we'll just slot in the new arms. Only, it doesn't look like there are any new arms, with the possible exception of Domingo Deutscher.

ALL-CAPS, I said before the season that, if the Mets' pitching stayed healthy, they could win it all. I never expected it to stay healthy. You're quite right about the scent of this year. 1986 all over again!

And sadly, John M., it's no longer THAT early.

I heard plenty of people saying, "Hey, the 1998 Yankees started out 1-4."

This is true. But by the 13th game, where we are now? They had just run off an eight-game winning streak and were 9-4. By the end of the month, they were in first place.

That's not happening here.
