To keep Andujar, we need a nickname

That would really secure his status as a Yankee.

I have a proposal, based on the wonderful flair with which he twirls his bat around after lining yet another double:

El Matador.

Andujar el Matador. He hits with the showmanship and style of the great matadors.

Plus, they could then start playing Los Fabulosos Cadillacs kick-ass hit, "El Matador," whenever he came to the plate, and get the stands rocking.

Who could ever trade El Matador?

And hey, after that, we could dub Torres, "El Conquistador," and play the great Procol Harum song.

El Matador and El Conquistador. You heard it here first.

Well, I'm not sure I agree with the premise. We might nickname him, only to see the fates and furies snatch him away and send him to Miami, where he could beat the crap out of use for years. BUT, I'll put aside my fears and contribute to this worth cause:

"Lightning Jar Andujar"

"El Toro"

"Junebug"

"The Meteor"

"Miggy Stardust"

"Big Mig"

"John Wayne Andujar"

"The Destroyer of Men"

"Mucho Macho Miguel"

"Daisy"

"Bat Boy Andujar"

Hey, Sanchez chose "The Kraken" -- pretty right-on for my money.

Maybe Miggy and Gleyber can do better than our suggestions without help?

ALSO: Did anyone notice the box score of the 11-1 defeat of the Angels? The NYYs did that without a single HR -- something you might not have thought possible.

Joe, great observation—and a very good sign. It shows we have a truly multi-dimensional offense now. If Giancarlo ever—ever—gets going, this could be frightening. For Red Sox fans everywhere.

13bit, love the ideas! And stealing from SNL, and playing off "Mucho Macho Miguel," we could have everyone chanting, "Qui best muy macho?" when he comes up.

El Toro was, I think, what they called Orlando Cepeda's dad, Pedro Cepeda, making him The Baby Bull.

And Junebug was apparently Clyde Frazier's original, childhood nickname. Just thought you'd like to know.

I go for "el siguiente" the next one.

Seem appropriate for this team.

Torres..... I must pay my respect. Although I came to jeer at you, I leave now with regret.

"And though you came with head held high
You did not conquer, only die..."

Okay, so we may need a new song. But still a great nickname!

Sigh.... Just read the injury update it listed Lames-bury as "slow moving" .... Sadly like a suffering cat still hanging on to his 9th life after being steamrolled by a car.... Ellsbury just needs to be "put out" of his misery

I recommend but do not condone a annonmous "bump off"

As for nicknames.. #Mini Papi

Sorry, but ab-so-fucking-lutely NO to your nickname. Our guy is not a steroid enhanced asshole. End of story. --30--

What about Neil Walkers sneer? Sneering Neil. But what does he have to sneer about?

Parson Tom said...

A-Rod's commentary is enthusiastically empty, devoid of anything beyond the obvious but delivered with gusto.

Honestly, I don't see how any Yankee fan could suggest "Mini Papi" as a nickname. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and suggest maybe that there's something in your water supply that temporarily clouded your judgement. I'll give you that.

As for Neil Walker?

Balker Walker

Stalker Walker

Neil the Heel

Flaming Neil

Walk-Off Walker

"Have fun when we trade you to Cleveland" Walker

Neil Schlemiel

Square Deal Neil

How Do you Feel, Neil?

Okay, I'm clearly the one running on fumes here. I'm going to round up the hound and get into bed.

Crazy pro-Yankee crowd at Anaheim tonight.

Leaving CC in for 7 full innings for the first time in 4 years? Not gonna lie, the Advanced Analytics looked pretty good tonight.

Apologize for this mini stroke...I was so distraught over ellsburys 23 mil sitting on the 163 day DL and the thought of drurya return jacking up what the roll we got goin it led me down a dark path where mini papI ACTUALLY sounded sane.... After tonight's win Ill do better

Looks like Ma Boone seems to be improving as the season goes along...I toast tonight to less pineapples.... And the kraken

After we trade Neil to the last place team in the AL West his nickname will be (groan) Walker, Texas Ranger.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Joe F, all is forgiven. Let's face it: if we had signed Big Papi, as Old George wanted to but Coops said no to, we would all love him to death. What I hate more than Papi is the endless sanctimony of the Communion of Saints, pretending he wasn't juiced to the gills.

13bit: love the ideas. How about "White Walker"? Weren't those the living dead things on "Game of Thrones"?

Carl: I think we should get a "Coops Handicap." How many games did Chris Carter cost us last year, in a race we lost by what, two games? How many will Neil cost us?

But...nice win!

A Few things...

1) El Matador works for me.

2) Neil Walker: "Walk on By". As in "Walk on Bye Bye". As in don't let the door hit you on the way out.

We are winning one run games. This is good.

I see fans sporting "Jar Heads" similar in spirit to the "Cone Heads" of past seasons. Who can forget those guys? First a trend, then a rage that would make trading Mr. AnduJAR virtually impossible to contemplate.

Don't break up this team, Mr. Coops. PLEASE!!!

It is high! it is far!...Andujar

Carl J. Weitz said...

Horace....I don't think Neil will cost us as many games as the X-Files creator did last year but I hope he is only in a slump and not in a sudden decline that ballplayers often get when their skills hit the wall. "Coop" wont trade him because he got him on the cheap.

HoraceClarke66 said...

I hear ya, Carl Weitz.

But we're talking now 82 plate appearances without a dinger, 6 ribbies, a .171 average, and .220/.197/.417.

.417 OPS!

Somethin's gotta give...
