I went to opening day once, when I was a kid. My parents took us out of school, and my dad had comp seats maybe three rows back from the visitors dugout. It was a beautiful warm day, and the stadium always look good on opening day probably because they hung bunting from the upper decks. I saw a photo of the snowed out stadium, and there was no bunting. It’s a shame that they’ve taken sabermetrics to such extreme ends.

It's a crap shoot. This will be the 35th year I've gone to Opening Day. I've been to a few Opening Days in the past 10 years where I wore shorts. For most, I've worn just a sweatshirt. Some have been snowed on (1996, when Bernie Williams wore a ski mask) and today's was snowed out.

There are no trends that I can see, weather-wise. As far as decking out the stadium and having fun pre-game festivities (e.g., military fly-overs, parachutists, falconers, special performances like John Fogerty playing Centerfield ... in center field, etc.), the trend is clearly downward sloping. There haven't been any memorable Opening Day festivities for the past few years.

I'll try to photo-document the experience tomorrow.
