A Brigadoon Refsnyder Sighting! Can the End Days Be Upon Us???

Yes, folks, it's happened again! There has been another sighting of Brigadoon Refsnyder, this time in the uniform of our arch nemesis, the Boston Pilgrims.

And what a sighting! In two games, the Reffer went 4-6, with two runs scored and a ribbie, bringing his average this year up to a whopping .412!

Combined with the Yankees' ungodly, 47-16 start, what can this all portend???

Do we see a bad moon a-rising? Do we see trouble on the way? Do we see earthquakes and lightning? Are we...quite prepared to die?

For those of you who may be less than familiar with the American theatre, Brigadoon was a Broadway smash, turned into a technicolor extravaganza starring Gene Kelly, who decides he would rather live in a mystical, mythical Scottish highland village with Cyd Charisse, than in 1947 Manhattan, the greatest place to have been anytime anywhere ever.

(Well, all right: Cyd Charisse.)

Of course, a streak like this would've led to the Refmonster being immediately sent back down if the Sox' GM were Brian Cashman—which is how he became "Brigadoon" in the first place, inexplicably disappearing despite playing quite well in his few appearances for the Bronx team.

What does this all mean? Birds and snakes and aeroplanes? And IS Lenny Bruce unafraid?

Well, for one thing, it's a tribute to Robbie the Resilient who, by my calculations has now played for 6 major-league and 13 minor-league teams, if we count the Cape Cod League (which we sure as hell do!), and is still just 31.

And why do I have the strange, awful feeling in the pit of my stomach that Refmo will somehow be facing us in a key playoffs at-bat this fall?

And is it MORE than coincidence that "The End of the World As We Know It" includes the line, "Wire in a fire, represent the seven games"?  (I'm not making this up!)

But hey, in tribute, here is Robbie in just some of the many different hats and unis he's worn over the years:

"Time I had some time alone, time I had some time alone..."

"Robbie the Resilient" great name.

Also really liked the photos. I would ask you where you got the picture of him from T-Ball but I'm pretty sure the answer would be, "From the Internet"

He's batting .412! I know it's only six ABs but that's twice what Joey is batting. We should trade for him immediately.

Last, If you have access check out Schmigaddoon on Apple + They did a good job parodying musicals.

I was hoping that there could have been a few more dozen photos of RtR. even 30 would do

Refsnyder's the answer to a great trivia question...only guy ever to be the MVP of the College World Series (2012, Arizona Wildcats) and the MVP of the International League Governor's Cup Championship Series (2018, Durham Bulls). Of course, that's perhaps the perfect resume for a AAAA ballplayer, but it's always nice to see him do well in the bigs for a couple weeks every summer.

He's no Cyd Charisse.

“ For those of you who may be less than familiar with the American theatre”. Who is that pointed towards? Not John, not Suzyn, not anyone who listens to John and Suzyn… But Cyd Charisse is a new one on me. If I heard you say you had the hots for Sid, I’d think you were gay and Jewish.

"Well, all right: Cyd Charisse"

In 1947, that may have been the greatest place to ever be in.

The Master is like my golden retriever. Dumb, happy, irrational, blind, and getting old. I would NEVER wish to replace him with a Sony Aibo.

Done fucking yourself?

Good, do it again.

10-1? Okay ...

The Yankees record is akin to that of a great basketball team. Baseball teams don't have .750 winning percentages.

Thank you whichever moderated that did the right thing.

But can someone answer this very important question?:

...and who is that with Brigadoon in his pic in the AZ snakes uniform?

And is anyone interested in Aug. 3rd game -- Wednesday 1 pm?

You are welcome Rufus T. I have no idea how the Reffer's with, but Cyd Charisse was freaking perfect.

I'm listening to the Toronto radio broadcast. Toronto even had a lead for half an inning, and then ... BAM!

I like hearing the lamentations of the women.

Mr. Warbalist… A great movie for the music alone. Basil Poledouris. I had the soundtrack and would play it when traveling a great distance in a V12 Jaguar. As the music got faster I’d pass every car in sight. Objects in mirror quickly disappear. You can’t get the original soundtrack on Spotify for some reason, only an almost amazing pipe organ transcription and a re-recording out of Czechoslovakia. I’d be the CD again but what would I do with it?

TheWinWarblist said...

CD? CD?

Rufus T. Firefly said...

OK, all you huckleberries. August 3rd?

Sorry, guys. I went out. I do that once in a blue moon.

And yes, the cutie in question is Robbie's wife, Monica. Glad to see the game holds some rewards.

And I apologize for implying that people here might not be knowledgeable about the American theatre. Hear, hear on all counts, regarding the miraculous Cad, with legs that just won't quit.

Still, can I just say one word? Haagis. As opposed to "martini." I think I'd stay put.

.750 ball and the Rays loser, the BoSox lose. This can't go on like this!

OR...

Can it????
