Who Owns New York? It's Still Us.

Taking up that musical question from a few weeks ago, we've had a rare test case recently, with the Yanks and Mets playing six home dates across town from each other.

These were on May 31-June 2—Yankees hosting the Angels of Something Something Anaheim; Mets vs. Nate—and June 14-16, Yanks-TB; Mets-Milwaukee.

The Yanks played a total of 6 separate dates during these periods, and drew 205,501 fans—never drawing fewer than 30,000 (or, it must be said, as many as 40,000) to the Stadium.

The Mets, in 5 dates, drew 129,599 to the park named for one of the most destructive financial institutions in U.S. history.  Even with Mr. AND Mrs. Met now leading the cheers.

Head-to-head, that's 34,250 a game for the Yankees, to just 25,920 for the Metsies.

The Yanks continue to lead the AL in attendance.  The Mets...continue to run 9th in the NL.

Which seems inexplicable.  Except, you know...Mets.

I wonder if the Staples Center got their $ 700 million ( 20 years) for renaming their place Crypto.com upfront or in annual instalments. Probably the latter. Also, are they getting paid in cash, Chronos or a combo? Curious minds want to know. At least one does.

Mr. and Mrs. Met's marriage is a total fraud at this point. They are like Sonny and Cher, but hiding their split while carrying on as if nothing happened. When this gets out, giant ballheads are going to go ballistic.

Where's Liz Smith when you need her?

Hey, we picked up Albert Abreu off waivers or something.

JM, which means we got Jose Trevino completely for free.

I always liked Abreu. Throws a 97 mph sinker with a nasty slider.

2022 numbers:

Clay Holmes
(sinker) .169 BA, .191 SLG
(slider) .182 BA, .227 SLG

Albert Abreu
(sinker) .235 BA, .294 SLG
(slider) .154 BA, .154 SLG

Although it pains me to say, since it contradicts the narrative, give Cashman credit for getting Trevino for, as it turns out, nothing. And who knows? Perhaps AA will at last be MLB.

Inexplicable? I do not think that word means what you think it means.

Abreu, however, means a good middle reliever. I wonder who gets sent down or released to make room for him? Assuming, of course, that they do make room for him.

@ Zachary...which means that AA MCO was getting absolutely pummeled on the fastball and change-up. Which is why he's no longer in TX. Maybe the coaching there was bad and forced him to use all 4 pitches. Or maybe Cashman told him " we're going to trade you for Trevino. Screw up badly so they release you and then we will grab you back. Oh yeah, there's 100K in that brown paper bag in your locker." A double-agent, if you will.

Answer to JM's question is - someone named McKay is now disappeared.

I gotta admit, the Mets couple are a mean duo on those horns, when Edwin Diaz comes in.

But yeah, I hear he's been playing around with the Phillies Phanatic, while she's seeing not one but all the presidents from the Washington mascot race, AND Bernie Brewer. He's got quite the bratwurst, if you know what I mean.

I really don't wish to pester Nestor but perhaps he needs to ratchet up his Nastiness

This is off topic…. But does anyone else listen to the game on MLB At Bat app? The audio is crystal clear. Has anyone else picked up on Suzyn’s little tongue behind teeth clucking snap sound she makes when disappointed the other team hits the ball? John (and Ricky) have a long dramatic arc to describe the action… it’s at the track, at the wall.. but I already know because right after the bat crack I hear Suzyns little teeth cluck preempting the call.

It’s just one of those things. Some pitchers tip the pitch, Suzyn tips the play.

Ricky Ricardo is pretty good, but his shtick is a bit too "announcery"--like he's pumping up his vocal cords to hawk a used-car dealership. He's decent on detail--unlike the hapless Sterling, Ricardo always gives the score after a commercial break and at frequent ivtervals thereafter, and unlike Sterling he gives the count after every pitch, but he almost never identifies what kind of pitch it is, which is a big drawback for a baseball radiocaster. So far Justin Shacklin is well in the lead if competence will be the criterion in choosing a Sterling replacement.

Brendan Burke, who does the Icelander games is one of the fill in announcers in the near future. He might be a candidate also…

Don't really understand the decision not to start Judge with a chance to really smack the Rays. Does the opponent REALLY make no difference? We can't wait until AFTER the 13 Days in Hell to give him a rest?

Stanton seems to have gone AWOL again, meanwhile.

BTR999 said...

There’s been some chatter in the Universe that everyone has been too tough on Boone.
No!
Why wasn’t Judge started at DH instead of Stanton? He’s 6 for his last 46, .130. He’s been
Kyle Higashioka without the hustle.
Boone could screw up a wet dream.

Judge needed to have a day off to think about the awesome generosity of the N Y Yankees and how his despicable greed has tarnished the franchise forever and forever and forever prior to the day of reckoning
