Babe Ruth is trending on Twitter, and we should be proud

There was a persistent rumor that The Babe himself was Black. I have no idea if it was true—but it would kind of great if he was. All that effort on banning Black players from the game, and the best one of all was playing!

Not that there was anything really good about the color line. How much we missed not getting to see the likes of so many fantastic players in the majors!

I'd pay for that DNA test. Lot of old racist assholes would spin in their graves. That alone is worth the price of admission.

I know. And there's the fact that Ted Williams was, really, the first great Latin American ballplayer to cross the color line. Yet even when Jackie Robinson first came up, Bob Feller—who had toured with Black teams—was insisting that no player in the Negro Leagues (save maybe a younger Satchel Paige) could play in the majors.

The power of racism is always stunning.
