Game 11 thread

Tonight we're turning moderation off during the game. If it turns out well, we'll keep doing it. I can still delete comments that don't belong here; you just won't have to wait to see the new ones. So get out there and play hard and play fair!

Rudy Giuliani is a cunt - he ought to be wearing a Mets cap.

And how does anyone justify Goober Hicks batting fifth?

Anyone?

Stang said...

Rudy's cap doesn't bother me as much as the ring.

His hat and phone cover up the black goo oozing from his head.

So, The Gleyber is out because he jammed his ring finger diving back to first base last night. X-rays were negative, so they say he'll miss only one game.

Right.

Too bad about that seeing-eye single against Taillon. But hey, this dynamic lineup will surely make that up.

Right?

So about 25 seconds after Michael Kay tells us that Gio Urshela is just as much at home at short as he is at third, he bounces a ball past Jay Bruce at first, for a two-base error.

In fairness, the ball got past our new second sacker, Ragnar Shaggy Breeches, before Gio got it. And it got past Jay Bruce, which is not unusual, as Bruce could not stop your average beachball.

Gee, it seems as if with Gleyber out, we could use a real, back-up infielder in there. You know, like the Thairo guy. Or Tyler Wade. Or Kyle Holder. Or...

This ump is not good.

YES Network trivia ... Among players born in the state of New York, what 2 Hall of Famers appeared in the most career games?

I'm thinking Lou Gehrig could be one ... he was a New York City guy, right?

I always liked Jamesons, until now.

BernBabyBern said...

Yaz and Biggio the trivia answers. Had no idea Yaz was from New York state.

You just knew something was coming. Anything but a 1-2-3 inning.

DickAllen said...

Why is this guy still in there?

Is anyone managing this team?

DickAllen said...

Was Boone hoping he’d go five to get credit for the loss?

Pocono Steve said...

It doesn't even matter. The lead was insurmountable at 3-0 with this plague of slumping .100 hitters we call a lineup.

Is there another game we can all watch? If this game were a bar I'd suggest we go across the street.

Where the fuck did they find these pitchers?? What the are they doing? WHY!? WWWHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

TheWinWarblist said...

AND NO I'M NOT A FUCKING ROBOT!!!! (Apologies to ALL CAPS.)

Leinstery said...

Why did comments need to be modified? I missed a few months.

Also this team sucks.

TheWinWarblist said...

We, apparently, had a troll infestation. And I for one do so enjoy the lunacy Mustang must have gone through to curate every single comment as opposed to only allow trusted commenters to post.

TheWinWarblist said...

And yeah also this team is wretched! Woah such sucking!

This umpire is REALLY bad.

TheWinWarblist said...

How "good" do you think the ump would need to be for the Yankees to not suck? Can we develop a metric for that? Good Umpiring Keeps the Yanks from Blowing and Sucking? GUKYBS. How high a GUKYBS do we need tonight to emerge victorious?

I think a good Yankees team wins even with a horrific GUKYBS. The 1927 Yanks had the all time negative GUKYBS for that era, but were still champs. So there is evidence to back up still win despite the low or negative GUKYBS. I think there's a good post on that on Fangraphs. I'll have to check.

I missed you guys. My nipples explode with delight.

Pocono Steve said...

Jay Bruce might as well be Jack Bruce.

Pocono Steve said...

Goddammit. Why am I still watching this?

This team will never be confused with the 27 team.

The only worthwhile thing I learned today is that there is an OFFICIAL YANKEES MAYONNAISE!

I don’t know what it’s called though, but through this mess I thought about greasing up the monkey with it. It might have relieved my frustrations about NOBODY HITTING WORTH A SHIT!

You just can’t predict advertising, Suzyn.

TheWinWarblist said...

Well said Dick Allen 1964, well said. Mayonnaise.

TheWinWarblist said...

Pathetic.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Sorry, what happened? Just woke up on my couch, covered in drool...

I kid. I turned that mother off hours ago.

It's not simply the incompetence which this team displays. It's also the sheer, all-around lack of energy and spark. They all look like they've just awoken from a bad dream. Which, I guess they kind of have:

"Why the hell are we playing in Dunedin? All right, it's still better than the Tampa Dome..."

Kevin said...

Having Torres at shortstop twists this team into some that Maurice Escher would have drawn up. The Yankees simply don't have the players who can are versatile, and also good. And the starters need to get the adhesions to break lose and see what they can do. Hal is the root cause of this monstrous creation, he needs to become more flexible.

Kevin said...

^....into something*

HoraceClarke66 said...

I agree, Kevin. I often wonder what these teams do all spring training, before they get so beat up.

This infield lineup is like a Picasso painting. Literally!!

I watched the first half inning and knew what the lineup had in store for us. Bupkus. So I moved on the Prime and watched foreign cop shows.

One worrisome thing is DJ lately. He looks pretty lousy at the plate.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Had a couple hits yesterday—but yeah, for once he's sucking in the clutch.

Still, he's not the guy we have to worry about.

Carl J. Weitz said...

Pocono Steve.....Jack is much more likely than Jay to get on bass.
