The Case for Signing Teixeira

Remember: NO NEGATIVES. But truth is truth.

1. Giambi can't cut it anymore. His value is at DH.

2. Posada might develop into a decent firstbase glove, but it would take him until June. He wants to catch. We need him to catch.

3. Neither Juan Miranda nor the Duncan boys are ready to anchor a playoff team infield.

4. Free agent Mark Teixeira is a gold glove.

5. Teixeira switch-hits.

6. He hits for power, for average and had a fine post-season with the Angels.

7. Signing Teixeira would give us huge flexibility in every other deal we pursue.

8. THERE IS NO FREE AGENT -- NOT SABATHIA, NOT NOBODY -- MORE IMPORTANT TO US THAN THIS GUY.

THERE IS NO GREATER SINGLE LEAP FORWARD THAN TEIXEIRA.

HE MUST BE OUR MAIN TARGET. SHELL OUT THE MONEY. GET IT DONE EARLY, AND EVERY FOLLOWING DEAL WILL BE MADE FROM A POSITION OF STRENGTH.

Whiff on Teixeira, and every move will hinge on asking, "Who's on first?"

Duque,

Call me a cock-eyed optimist, but I agree without hesitation or comment.

If only you were in charge.

Teixeira is 100% the right move to make. There's no excuse to not go after him.
