Clint who? Yanks' phone-in-lineup Saturday game thread.

Sure. The usual.

DON'T put your two best sluggers back-to-back. Put a .167 hitter in between them.

DON'T play your best young player at all. Keep him on the bench until his spirit breaks.

And on and on and on.

The fact that Frazier hasn't taken a bat to the locker room and quit is getting more and more surprising to me.

I like Gardy. I do. A good player for a long time. But he needs to be the fourth outfielder and Frazier needs to be the clear-cut starter at this point. It's ridiculous.

Tyler Wade should never have been sent down. I'd have brought up Esteven Florial and put him in CF. The Odor trade should never have been made. Jay Bruce should never have been brought in. Clint Frazier should be playing every day. Domingo German should not have been sent down. Kluber and Taillon are just as bad, if not worse. Stanton should have been traded over the winter, after his first season, in fact. We should've held on to Sir Didi. DJ should be playing 1B and Torres 2B. Voit would've been the DH, if he hadn't been hurt. Deivi Garcia should've been on the team from the start. I don't know how Andujar is doing, but he probably should've made the team as well. Thairo Estrada should not have been traded. Mike Ford should've made the team.

And then today's lineup could have/should have looked something like this:

1. DJ 1B
2. Didi SS
3. Judge RF
4. Torres 2B
5. Ford DH
6. Frazier LF
7. Urshela 3B
8. Sanchez C
9. Florial CF

Instead, what an effing mess! Courtesy of that stupid Brain Cashman & Co. You know, we just might break the record for the worst team of all time this year. Yeah, it could happen! If it does, it might, just might wake up slumbering Prince Hal.

What do you all think is the real reason Frazer is being kept out of the line up??????????

Can't disagree much with Hammer of Thor. Stanton should have been traded after his first year with the Yankees along with Hicks. Tanaka should have been resigned. Why Odor? They already smell bad without him. cASSman and Boone should be fired. Bruce? What a bust!! Too bad Hell can't be sent out with them. Doubt he'll learn from all the mistakes he's made with this team. No spine!! Obvious he didn't learn anything from George. "Winning is second only to breathing!"

Ken

Not lethargic enough.

I agree. But it goes back even more.

When Jeets came around looking to unload Giancarlo, any good GM would have asked instead, "What do you want for Yelich and Realmuto?"

@ Ken of Brooklyn They didn't like Frazier from the first time that he came here. Hard to figure exactly what it is. There are some guys who they just LOVE, such as Brett Gardner and ... it hurts to say this ... Stephen Drew. They couldn't get enough of Stephen Drew. I don't know how they ever let that guy go.

My theory on Frazier: besides the long curly red hair, he's not a dead pull, homer happy hitter. At his best, he sprays the ball around, with power. They don't like guys who won't concentrate exclusively on launch angles and exit velocities. They want guys who swing for the fences on every single pitch, every single swing. Cutting down on your swing to hit the ball the other way? Sacrilege! Blasphemy! It's Yankee baseball, as designed by Cashman & Co. Anyone who doesn't fit their mold, ends up a-mouldering in the minors.

Plus he expressed upset at being sent down to the minors once.

Used to be, that was the sign of a guy who wanted to play. Now, it's a career-long demerit.

Paul O'Neill remarking today how amazing the Yankees' tradition is, as viewed in Monument Park.

I wonder if it's the first time he's been out there in his 27 years with the team.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Monty leaving the game after 6 innings and 86 pitches. He tried to work the 7th, but threw 4 straight balls to the first batter.

Sigh.

I know, I know. He's still recovering, he's looked better than most of our rag arms this year, and we didn't expect all that much out of him in the first place.

But really, nobody on the team but Gerrit Cole can go 7 innings?

BernBabyBern said...

To be honest, I'm shocked that Cole is allowed to go past 6. Pitchers can't see a batter more than twice in a game!! Remember analytics are not a tool ... they are hard and fast, inarguable rules that must never, ever be questioned. (Well, except if they say that Clint Frazier should start. Only then can they be ignored.)

Thanks Doug (LOL!) and Hammer, I was hoping that whole media meltdown scenario from before was water under the bridge, and god knows we need a second 'hitter' like DJ which I thought Frazer was more or less fulfilling,,,,,, there's definitely an internal issue. The Yankee brass has a problem with this guy, and, they are in last place. Absolutely Pathetic!

I can just imagine the batting coach(es) calling Frazier into the video room, sitting him down on a stool, and dictating to him how he should modify his swing and his approach: "Clint, you need a much much bigger leg kick, you want to lift your left foot higher than the height of your right knee, you want to drive forward exactly 18 inches, uncoiling your right leg, your swing should be at an angle of exactly 24 degrees at its apex point. If you want to hit home runs, you've got to make these changes." Clint Frazier only rolls his eyes and looks down at the floor, muttering words that sound suspiciously like curses inside his blue face mask. And the coaches send Cashman & Co. a text message that says: "This rambunctious young man is virtually uncoachable. He's rolling his eyes and cursing under his breath whenever he's given sound, meticulous batting advice that is designed to transform him into a classic Yankee slugger like Giancarlo Stanton."

Remember the Suzyn Waldman "7" scandal a couple yeras ago? A leak to Suzyn from Yankee source that Clint asked for Mick's number? Bullshit, it turned out, but who told Suzyn that and why? Then, Clint, showing a wicked sense of humor, asked for "77", which was granted. But I'm sure it pissed Yankee Inc right the fuck off. It's been passive aggressive gaslighting and undermining ever since. Terrible, childish organization. Not worth paying attention to, frankly.

Bravo, Publius. Right on the money. Any thoughtful Yankee fan ought to be rooting for this sick joke of a franchise to lose every day to hasten the arrival of a new front office and--even more miraculously--a new ownership. In the meantime, Clint Frazier should publicly demand to be traded. He has nothing to lose at this point.

@Publius I like a sense of humor. As the Toecutter said in the movie "Mad Max", when you have a pretty face but no sense of humor, what's going to happen when you ... lose the face?

Hilarious, Hammer—I mean the imagined Frazier "coaching" session.

Ken of Brooklyn said...

BRAVO Hammer, LOL> right on the money,,, and Publius, thanks for that reminder, another reason I really like the guy, and I completely agree!!

Kevin said...

Clint hits, Clint plays. Clint doesn't, he sits. Simple. And please, none of this "destroying his career nonsense because of the psychological "trauma". If he really has IT he'll be fine.

Publius said...

Hicks doesn't hit, Hicks plays (except when his exquisite social conscience dictates otherwise of course). Is that IT? An exquisite social conscience. Does that keep a talented hitter in the lineup?

Rufus T. Firefly said...

This team is fucked. This is the wrong earth version of the team I rooted for my entire life. Every front office decision (including daily lineups -- lets be realistic FFS) seems to be based on "how can we fuck up this team even more?" They're making the mutts look well managed.

Anonymous said...

Kevin--And how exactly do you expect Clint to hit when he is given two or three games as a significant sample size to judge his hitting ability, whereas complete career washouts like Hicks and Odor seem to have guaranteed sinecures? Do tell.
