A note about the occasional politics and the comments on this blog

Over the weekend, IT IS HIGH had a bit of a dust-up over politics.

My bad. I read something about Rudy Giuliani, and I blew a gasket.

Look: I have my views, as you have yours. Occasionally, mine will drift into this blog. I strive not to let my politics overwhelm IT IS HIGH's main purpose:

To simultaneously love and hate the Yankees, to cherish or despise the team has a force of goodness or pure evil... depending on how they did yesterday.

I know some of you disagree with me, politically. That's fine. As I've said in the past, I make no claims about being right. In fact, I was wrong about Jesus Montero. I thought he'd be great. (But I ask you, hardcore Trumpians: WERE YOU NOT ALSO CONVINCED THAT MONTERO WAS THE REAL DEAL? And don't sit here and claim otherwise, because I remember the comments, and I remember certainty that practically all of us - except for Alphonso, I must admit, not him - all of us had when Jeez hit those two HRs on the last day of the season. He was going to be great.) Yes, I can be wrong about many things.

Occasionally, something will overpower my vow to stay apolitical. Some of you will like it. Some of you will hate it. That's how it's going to go. Feel free to tell me off. I'm good with that. You can call me names, if you want. That's okay. I'll have brought it on myself. But I do hope we don't turn on ourselves, and that this site doesn't deteriorate into a place where people just go to fight.

If that happens, the Redsocks won.

Listen: None of us will change his or her opinion about politics based on this blog. I think we should recognize that. But now and then, I will say how I feel. All I've got is an honest opinion. Sometimes, we break.

I hope you stick with the blog, even if you hate my occasional comments about Trump or Montero. But if you cannot deal with them, I cannot help you.

So where are we now? Well, I believe Clint Frazier will have a great career. Okay, assholes, come at me!

There are people who simply believe that truth is lies and lies are the truth.

Hard to have a conversation with them about a peanut.

But I think Frazier is screwed and will not ever be a regular Yankee. And thanks for riffing into the record room to confirm that I always felt Jesus was nothing more than an ice cream sandwich.

As a final thought for today; even though I often cannot differentiate between truth and fantasy, I am sticking with this blog come civil war or the end of the game.

Although I would enjoy calling you names, if I could think of any.

El Duque, there is no reason to apologize. Giuliani brought it on himself with a stupid and false comment about baseball players. Your article was about that comment. How could it not become political? If anyone didn't want to talk politics, he or she should have stayed away from that article, that's all. There are plenty of articles here that are purely about baseball.

And about Jesus Montero, I too thought that he would be a great hitter, so you've got plenty of company. It was no great loss either way. Montero apparently went into a depression filled eating binge after getting traded, put on 40 lbs, and promptly got himself demoted to the minors. The guy we got for him didn't really pan out either, although we traded that guy for another guy. It's a game of percentages. If you're right more than half the time, you're doing well.

As a person who owns a Montero shit I too was on board. That said, I bought it in the Modell's discount bin.

Wow, it's amazing the things you can get at Modell's! :)

Very well said, Duque, which is why you are our Peerless Leader.

And yeah, I thought Jesus was the real deal, too.

First thing to do in Heaven: look into exactly which Yankees were never going to make it, and which were systematically ruined by Brian Cashman and all the rest of George's "baseball people" over the many years.

Hey, I'll have eternity!

I am a 66 yr old retired attorney who spent practically my entire career in criminal law as either an ADA, defense attorney or in the Judiciary. I say that only to point out that the arguments had on a daily basis in court had true meaningful effects on a spectrum of individuals. However, we always had to make our augments logical and cogent and there was always someone who disagreed or felt burned. You simply cannot please everyone in that arena. BUT, we never could engage in personal insults. This is a sports blogs, please leave it at that. This should be a "safe" zone where we can bust cannolis about the Yanks without politics.
Lest anybody think that I am a cupcake or a snowflake, I've been shot at executing warrants and spent literally hundreds of hours seated next to or across from murderers, home invaders, rapists and child molesters. That's why really juvenile insults [insert "RichieAllen1964" here] is just tedious.
PLEASE, let's argue how overpaying for years and years for Aaron Hicks, AKA "Lame Switch Hitter" has screwed Red Thunder out of his chance for a spot in Monument Park.

I firmly believe that the biggest difference between successful pro athletes and those who just missed is mental toughness, the ability to focus, whether on a long term goal or on the game situation in front of you right now. And there is certainly an element of just dumb luck as well, being in the right place at the right time. Like if Montero had come up when the Yankees had no depth at catcher, I'm sure he would have played here for a year or two. Unfortunately, Montero's putting on 40 lbs after getting traded didn't speak well of his mental toughness. Hey, it's tough to break into the pro level, whatever sport or business you're in. I hope Clint Frazier has the mental toughness to persevere and have a 10-15 year career in the majors, whether it's here or elsewhere. He's got to get so good that they just can't keep him off the team. That's got to be his attitude. You can't keep a good man down.

Richie, I'm with you. If people didn't want me to yell at them and mock them, they'd find a way to be less fucking stupid.

ANONYMOUS 66 YR OLD ATTORNEY.

THAT WAS BEAUTIFULLY PUT.

THE INTOLERANCE FROM SOME PEOPLE ON THIS SITE IS STAGGERING, (AS IT WAS 3 AND A HALF YEARS AGO)...

BLIND HATRED AND VITRIOL.

POLITICS IS A DIRTY GAME.

WHY SULLY THIS PRISTINE SITE?

NO NEED TO APOLOGIZE MR. DUQUE, YOUR KINDNESS AND HONESTY SHINES RIGHT THROUGH AT ALL TIMES.

Allow me the pleasure of a reply.

I have seen videos of people exclaiming “if we are to have a dictator, let it be Donald Trump.”

AND...

I have seen Minnesotans shopping at Walmart wearing face masks with swastikas on them.

Now, whether those of you who stand behind that pig currently occupying the White House like it or not, you are indelibly linked to these people - or, as I call them, fascists and traitors who would destroy my country. You will always be one of them. Hundreds of thousands of Americans died to put an end to dictators and fascism. To my mind, you are allies of my enemies.

As such, you will always have my deepest venom and undying hatred. There are no pejoratives too scandalous, no ad hominims too insulting to describe you.

Richie, even if I believe your two examples, which I have not personally seen [caveat, I don't watch MSNBC ], by extension of your logic, because I prosecuted and/or defended 37 Black/Hispanic men, I can rightly conclude that all POC are violent criminals and I should project my undying hatred upon an entire group of people because of the pigment of their skin and the actions of a sub-group.

Thanks to Duque and everybody else. I love you all.

This blog is a testament to our ability to all get together and pull for a common cause despite our disagreements and occasional opposing views. That is the essence of democracy and what the narrator to Superman used to call "Truth, justice and the American Way."

Like a lily growing in a fetid puddle of pig diarrhea, like a beacon in the middle of a story sea, and like a VD clinic in the red light district of Bangkok, this blog stands as a place of truth, beauty, healing and the occasional big of insanity in the middle of a completely fucked up world.

I'm going to leave politics out of this post. Most of you know where I stand. Does it matter? I also - just my personal opinion - think this bullshit "season" should end immediately, but I'll shut up now.

RICHIE ALLEN.

I AM NOT A RACIST, OR A FASCIST.

YOU THINK I SUPPORT BEING BOTH.

YOU ARE THE PROBLEM WITH THIS COUNTRY.

TOTAL INTOLERANCE.

YOU'RE FULL OF HATE.

MY PREVIOUS STATEMENT WAS CORRECT.
